Thats a stupid comparison. You are ignoring the context. Balatro was decently original because it didn't make an another "Slay the spire-like" rougelike. This is trying to catch, like some games a saw recently, "the lightning in the bottle" from Balatro. Also what i suggested is perfect for what Riot wants to do. Engaging players with the game's lore.

It takes a crap ton of effort to make a new boardgame that isn't just a reskin of something already existing

I see no issue with just having a slay the spire poker reskin since players will probably know what poker is so they can easily get through the story part of it

Now if they made a bespoke game, you need to ahve a whole ass tutorial or a guide sheet on how to play it

would rather just play a reskinned poker than constantly peek at a sheet to see how to play
