jokers which specify they do an effect if your played hand "contains" a hand type,
they don't check for if the hand type that's being scored is exactly that hand type
they just check if any of the cards you're playing can form the hand type
for example, if you have jolly joker (+8 mult if hand contains a pair), and you play a flush with two jacks, a 7, and 6, and a 4,
the hand will be scored as if it's a flush,
but since it does contain a pair (the two jacks), jolly joker will still trigger

the plant also counters more 'workarounds' for dealing with the boss than suited bosses.
Turning a face card into a non face card generally removes a lot of value from the card being played as jokers synergise with faces quite a lot, and removing the 'faceness' of a face card completely removes the value generated
Specific suits (mainly hearts due to bloodstone) are subject to a similar fate in that regard, but no other suit is hurt as much, and flush builds can often work regardless of the specific suit that you go for, as long as you play a flush
