There are ways to manipulate the flow of the game to suit the seed you're playing if you know how. Every run is different though and some of the seeds require the player to make a lot of optimal choices rapid fire so it can be challenging. Overall though its not a game that is entirely based on chance.

My main issue with gold stake- apart from bosses- is the frequency of joker debuffs and the chance for them to stack. On their own, they’re a fun mechanic. Eternals require commitment to a joker’s playstyle, perishables force you to think short term and decide if they’re worth it in the moment and rentals are a trade-off. But most of the time, they either limit your options because the price is too much to pay, or you take them and they cripple the run. Sometimes my only option for survival will be a rental that puts me in debt and like- I’m trying to play this game for escapism goddamnit!
