I thought by qualifying you meant the finals qualifying. That is to set the grid for the race. You are talking about the qualification rounds which you have to get top 5 (different to 1%, top 5 as in actual positon number) in your region to get through to the finals.

Normally it gets easier to qualify every round but even in Rd 3 EU people needed top 20 overall to qualify. It's rough because the best guys usually qualify earlier. But this time a few of the top drivers waited until Rd 3. πŸ’€

LATAM is arguably deeper but they both have a lot of talent at the top. Lol on "The Americas" leaderboard there's 2 LATAM drivers for every NA driver in the top 100.

There's 3 rounds, you can only qualify once. So if you qualify rd 1 you're not eligible on the others. They take top 6 each round in NA and top 5 in the other regions. Top 5 in other regions because they have race days qualifier events at stores as well. People all play on the same settings on a rig setup in the store and try to set the fastest time on wheel. They take the top 16 I believe from the race days events, have a race days finals to wittle it down to 4. And those 4 from race days finals join the other 15 from the online qualifiers to make up the grand finals.

So there's a couple ways to qualify

When I say qualifying rounds, there's featured rivals that each stay up for about a month apiece. It rotates through the 3 combos used in finals and people just have to make top 5/6 regionally in one of them.

Majority of top drivers play on controller, I'd say the race days events are the easiest road if you know what you're doing. If you do qualify online though you're straight to finals. Guaranteed pay day. πŸ’ͺ

FM was designed for controller so the FFB can be a little weird on wheel. You can be just as fast on wheel but it takes a lot of tinkering with settings and getting used to it before you can really extract the time. There's been a handful of finalists and even an APAC champion on wheel. But 95% are on controller including all the fastest drivers.

A lot of us have sim setups but still choose to play on controller.

Playing on PC with higher FPS helps more than anything. If you're looking for an edge that's the trick.

I just built a nasty gaming PC for my sim rig but competed in finals on my series X. Could've probably made another $200 if I just installed forza on my computer. πŸ˜‚

AMD 9800X3D, RTX5080, 32GB DDR5-6000 (30cl), 2tb m.2 SSD, 850watt psu, 360 AIO water cooler. I was so pumped when I passmarked it and hit 1% graphics.

I'm not even using the X3D mode, supposedly improves fps by a little but it deactivates hyper threading and loses half the threads. Computer benchmarked better with normal settings over the X3D gimmick.

It was time for an upgrade, my main rig has an i7-6700k which is the minimum requirement for my capture card now. Atleast it'll still make a good stream PC.

There are definitely advantages to playing at higher frames. Higher frames aren't a direct causation in faster lap times, but at the same time, higher frames do make it easier. I can hit the same lap times at 120 frames as I can at 60, but it's a lot easier for me at 120 frames due to how much smoother the game is. It's really jarring going back to 60 after experiencing 120. The game feels so choppy in comparison. I wouldn't say it necessarily makes me faster, though. I can hit the same target times at 60 as I can at 120, but I can do it more consistently at 120.

I would say the most important thing over anything else is having a strong internet connection. I did some testing leading up to the Grand Final, and it came to my attention that my main workstation PC gets half the internet speed as my secondary HTPC. I typically compete on my workstation and use my HTPC for casual TV gaming. However, upon realizing how much faster the WiFi in my HTPC is, I decided to compete on my HPTC for this Grand Final instead. It's astounding how much better multiplayer was.

Normally, cars will jitter everywhere and I have to put up with terrible server lag that makes it incredibly difficult to focus and set decent lap times, and I had none of those problems on my HTPC. My HTPC has an i5-14600 and RX 6700, whereas my workstation has an i7-13700K and RX 7800 XT, so while my HTPC is a tad slower hardware-wise, the faster WiFi made multiplayer so much more playable. Needless to say, I've ordered a new WiFi card for my workstation. πŸ˜…

But, yeah, I was shocked when I tested the two computers and saw the difference. I always thought it was because my internet just sucked. Turns out, I've been relying on a bad WiFi card for the last couple of years. My workstation only gets like 15mbps down and 10mbps up. I thought that was just my internet, then I tested my HTPC and got like 50mbps down and 25mbps up.

That's still not very great, but that's to be expected as I live in a rural area. Regardless, it was still a noticeable difference. The ping especially. I was getting around 6,000 ping on my workstation whereas my HTPC ranges between 30 and 100 ping. I never realized the discrepency before because I only play single player games on my HTPC. Any kind of competitive gaming I use my workstation.

Even though my internet is pretty good, when playing competitive games (Minecraft mostly), my ping on most servers ranges from 200 - 300ms, simply because of being located in Oceania connecting to servers from the EU and US.

So sometimes people say "You got bad internet" when in reality I don't, its just the distance to the server is so much further

Im not the weakest either so its definitely beefy all built with the DD base, seat, and pedals all hooked up.

Google says the rig itself weighs 70lb. Plus the seat, dd base, pedals, and add on stuff. Total weight is somewhere in the 100-150lb. I pick it up by the wheel base mount, lifting the pedals end and let the back slide on the cardboard.

Sounds about right, any decent rig is going to be heavy. You only really need a rig like that for roughly 12/13nm and above. I have an 18nm base but only run it at 11 so i couldve cheaped out lol

If everything's plugged in and powered properly then the wheel should calibrate itself and turn fully both directions immediately, if it doesn't then it's either an issue with the cords, where they're plugged into the computer or wheel base, or something could be wrong with the wheel base itself

As I said last week - there will be a deliberate attempt at convergence towards low gear usage as Max did in week 1. You can’t beat physics.

The differentiator will be how well the PU and gearbox handle this abuse, and how β€œgentle” the feedback to the driver is in the corners.

I do too. Unless this last LMGC was it and the next one will take place on Horizon 6. However, Horizon's competitive features have always been lackluster compared to Motorsport, so I don't even know how that would work for streaming/broadcasting unless FH6 gets a major overhaul to its competitive features. Not to mention the fact that the Horizon titles have always been open-world casual games, which goes against the "sim-racer" demographic Logitech is targeting with these McLaren G Challenges.

FH3 is my favorite Horizon of the "modern" Horizons, but I still wouldn't say I love it. It was a 6/10 for me. I didn't love it nor did I hate it, I just prefer track racers. FH4 is a 4/10, and FH5 is a 2/10. The only one I truly liked was FH1 since there was real progression and a story to follow. Absolutely zero incentive to play when you're handed everything from the beginning. Starting off in a slow Fiat Punto and working your way up to a Porsche Carrera GT is part of what made mid-2000s racers like NFS Most Wanted so fun. There was actually stuff to work towards. If I don't have a list of things to do or a set of objectives to achieve, I have zero motivation and zero reason to play.

All the forza's were pretty good. FM2 was solid too, FM4 was like the NFL 2k 05 of forza. It had more content and features than any other FM. Leaderboards were amazing, spec and open rivals that people actually pushed. Car clubs where you could share cars from your garage with people in your car club. So you'd have your garage and the club garage, so many good cars to choose from. They'd come tuned and painted just like the car is in their garage.

Then they had a private lobby directory where players could find or host private lobbies with custom settings. People could host cat and mouse, hardcore lobbies with forced cockpit view and no assists etc. There was just so much diversity in the gameplay. The replay value was the best. People were playing it for years, my old club / league was still running races on fm4 until around fm7.

I started in FM1 and played them all pretty thoroughly. Never really got into Horizon. To me GTAV does open world driving the best. I'd rather be able to shoot back at people who drive with GTA/Horizon race craft. 🀣

lvl 15 you unlock the g-lounge, private chat for elite members and staff to joke around. Pretty fun in there, all the sweats from all the events and the staff. They have exclusive giveaways on occasion in there too.

Mostly get XP from talking and playing in events, if you place you get a chunk of server XP manually added. That's part of how I leveled up.

It's a lot easier when you level up. IMO the best way to make money is to run the Bogden heist over and over with a friend and glitch the second act final over and over. You can do the final in about 12 minutes and then dash quit out of the game at certain point in the cut scene. The person who hosts doesn't get paid since they quit and reset, so you alternate with a friend and make roughly 1 mill every 30 minutes. Or every 15 if you're trying to pump up one person.

Basically the cutscene starts with the Avenger opening and the first guy walks down the stairs, as the second person starts to step out of the Avenger hit the guide button and dashquit the game. When you load back in the Final is there to start again and your buddy still gets paid.

Sometimes it glitches and there's an invisible wall in the hanger that won't let you park the avenger, but if that happens there's another mission you have to do to open the invisible door again. I'd have to google it to remember which one it is but that was the fix.

If you want a good idea of where it stands try running it again in P class rivals. The leaderboard is dominated by the #1 ferrari but you should be able to go a lot faster in there. There's also more rubbering in rivals. Rivals has 100% track rubbering while test drive is only 50%.

it doesnt always need to focus on logitech products. lots of people in here with knowledge about other brands so its always worth asking about. never know who is reading it. Great example is I have a Logi DD wheel, but @edgy current has Simagic and I know others are floating around as well

I do love driving with the wheel, but as you said controller just is better for the game, maybe if I did end up switching to a more "competitive" sim game I'll set my wheel back up but for now its far more work than its worth

as a professionally unemployed aimer, the aimlabs channel is the easiest way to get xp if you interact with fellow aimers a lot

watch his replay and really focus on where he lift's and downshifts, the actual shift timing.

The first inside apex on the right is where you lift coming off the straight

just feather the brake enough to downshift 2nd without locking the rears and then coast engine braking, might have to delay the 2nd gear downshift a little

engine braking helps the car turn, so if you over brake its actually turning less

I feel like they would've already announced it by now if there was going to be another one. Maybe we'll see the LMGC return in FH6, but I have no clue how that would work in a Horizon game.

That would be bad news for me, then. I live in middle-of-nowhere Arizona, my internet struggles enough just doing online racing. If I were to then add streaming on top of that, I'd probably only make it five minutes before my internet kills itself. πŸ˜…

Maybe Horizon 6 will finally implement spectate and other features from FM that have been missing, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I guess the game has a new time attack system, so that's at least a step in the right direction, but Horizon has left me disappointed too many times to have much hope left for the series.

We take for granted how convenient playing on controller is.

Seat height, seat angle, pedal height, pedal deck angle, pedal face angle, pedal distance, pedal spacing, wheel position and angle, monitor distance and orientation, brake pedal feel, throttle throw distance, FFB adjustments, FOV adjustments, mapping a million buttons on the wheel. Not to mention just building the gaming PC and Rig. Adds up quick.

I only use my wheel/pedal setup to mess around in BeamNG.drive. Becoming proficient on wheel/pedal is like learning and instrument, and I just haven't had the motivation to dedicate the time to get to a point where I feel decently competitive in sims. The fact that you can compete with the best in the world with just a standard Xbox controller is what makes Forza so appealing.

I also don't have the space for a proper sim rig, so my wheel is attached to a desk and my pedals are on the carpet, which definitely isn't ideal, but I have to make do as I don't have the space. I'm hoping to have enough $$$ saved to buy a house in the next five years, then I can dedicate an entire room to making an awesome sim setup.

Having everything setup to your liking makes driving night and day though. I could barely get around the track without spinning when I started. The shift timing is probably the most jarring difference when you swap to sim.

Forza doesn't translate how bad cold race tires really are. Huge culture shock when you try the colds on iracing.

forza horizon 6 PC spec sheet came out today. It actually looks like a pretty reasonable ask. 1650 for min (1080 @60fps) and a 4070ti without RT at max (4k 60), with a 5070ti for 4k with RT using upscaling

according to my calculations, if you make fh6 look the same as fh5, you will get the sameish fps, since you probably will be gpu bound

and also the last 10% of detail will cost you the most in terms of performance, so you can get a really smooth experience without needing to make the game look like poo

Yeah the R3 is very decent for the price. I would go up to an R9 at some point, but my priority is a cockpit such as the NRL victory.

I used to sim race in VR all the time, and I know a lot of people still do. I switched away from it becasuse more and more, newer releases either dont support it, or have shaky support that makes it difficult to use, so I ended up just using a 21:9 ultrawide and its been amazing
