Rivals automatically sets softs and 5%, races are mediums and 100%. Since we can't adjust fuel it changes depending on what you're doing.

I'm guessing the fastest times at Spa will be mid to low 57s with med tires/100% fuel. I finally managed to set my Switch down and start practicing tonight, and after two 10-laps sessions I'm sitting at a 1:58.4xx as my current best. I made quite a few mistakes that lap, though, so once I cut down on those mistakes I can see high 57s. I'm feeling super rusty after not touching the game in a month and half. Coming back to Forza after playing Mario Kart for the last month and a half is quite the experience. 😅

There it is. It felt like a decent lap overall, other than messing up my handbrake timing through corners 13 and 14 as well as having to let off through corners 15 and 16 after going into it too hot. Both of those mistakes combined cost me a few tenths altogether, which is annoying, but it is what it is. Although, I'm still pretty happy to be in the sub 58s after my first night of practice in over month.

The first time I drove the car with medium tires/100% fuel it was so bad I couldn't turn without the car veering off the track and straight-lining into a barrier. The car feels a million times better to drive than the first time I tested med tires/full fuel, which makes me 100% positive it was a weird game glitch I was experiencing.

It's a hard combination. You've really gotta use the handbrake to get the rotation out of the car. It's especially important with medium tires since it doesn't grip/rotate as well as it does on softs with low fuel. I recorded my 1:57.9 lap and will post it here once it's finished uploading to YouTube. It's far from a perfect lap with lots of room for it to be taken even lower, but it should still serve as a good reference.

Ya they're not cheap. Definitely need a good reason before dropping the money on a gaming desktop. I built my computer in 2016 and haven't had a reason to rebuild it. It'll run games if I need to but I have my series x for that.

I always expect the motherboard to be the bear minimum, no name ram, and a cheap power supply that could burn out at any time. Might be biased but that's what I expect from a prebuilt.

In my experience buying good name brand parts works better in the long run. Usually for the motherboard I just look up the top tier chipset for the socket and just buy that. Easier to find a good deal when you search by chipset.

It's a few years old at this point as well, so to build that same system today would be slighly cheaper since it's no longer the newest parts. I also spent extra money for sleeved PSU cables and other aesthetic bits, which would've taken the price down to $1,300ish if I hadn't bought those things. It's been very good, though, and should easily last me until 2027.

It ends up costing way more money in the long-term to buy cheaper hardware due to how much more frequently you have to upgrade, which is why I always get the nicer stuff. There's also diminishing return, though, where at a certain point the hardware becomes unfathomably more expensive for improvements you wouldn't notice outside of benchmarking. Getting 200 FPS in a game instead of 400 is the biggest first-world problem there is. 😅

you lock the wheels enough times to find out where the wheels lock

Heres what you do, go to Le Mans, Go to the straight, and brake so hard you for sure are going to lock up the wheels. and see how the car reacts under locking up

After you get a feel for how the car behaves under lock up with various steering inputs, try and ease off the brakes after locking up to find where you unlock

The unlock point is going to be less pressure than the lockup point

so after you unlock the brakes, start to ease on it again to find where that lockup point is again

youre essentially doing the job of ABS with your foot, aiming to be more consistent and steady than the ABS system

at least thats how I learned how to deal with it

I turned ABS off as soon as i loaded up the game for the first time lol

Does ABS Off provide benefit? I get decent enough times with it on but I'm thinking if I can go faster with it off. But if it doesn't make huge difference I'll leave it on. I know some people can get crazy good times when it's turned on (I think the guy in 2nd EU for the extra logitcech challenge has it on for e.g) but if it helps with anything when it's off I'll try to learn

LateShift is one example of that. Hardly anything exists of LateShift anymore other than a few screenshots and old social media posts, which is quite unfortunate considering it was the last "professional" competition hosted on FM7. It's awesome to have a record of these events and be able to look back on them them many years down the line. Also, I doubt the average 55-year-old IRS worker knows what EsportsEarnings is. depends on the platform you are playing on. PC, lots of options, Moza being the best value, Xbox supports moza, but in a limited capacity, and PS, is limited to really only fanatec or logitech without adding lots of complexity and unreliability

generally speakling, fanatec is not a great option tho since they offer the most restrictions on add ons

simcube 2 pro is 25nm and is $1400 for just the base

all are only for pc other than moza which can be made to work for the xbox but only if you use 1 specific wheel

so a full Simmagic setup, which is probably the best way to go, at 18nm, will cost $1400 and still need a place to mount it

which is another $400-$1000

one of the reasons I went with the logi pro base is older games will nativly support it as well because of the logi drivers. some older titles struggle with the newer brands that didnt exist when those games released. there are work arounds but its not as easy as plug and play

moza was brand new and people were not sure if it was a scam, which it kind of is because your payment info will get stolen from their site and has been that way for months

fanatec had just gone bankrupt.... it was an in flux time in the space

Usually a g923 or similar are good to get your feet wet. You should make sure you like sim racing before investing in a higher end setup.

It's based on split times. I was .500 up from my 57.5xx session PB in the second to last split sector, then I choked the last couple corners and went through the final split only .050 up. It was such a good lap until my nerves got the best of me and I forgot how to drive. 😭

Side note: If you play on Xbox, hook up the DD base to a computer first and update the firmware. It needs the firmware update to read the wheel. The wheel has a chip inside that makes it xbox compatible. So if you hook it up and things aren't working right don't panic, it just needs an update. 🍻 @civic breach

The only saving grace is that I've already done like 500 laps of Spa at 5% fuel/soft tires from the Rivals stage. However, that was months ago, so that doesn't mean much since my muscle memory has long since faded. Maple Valley is the worst since I never bothered to do the Rival for the MV. Hakone isn't too bad, thankfully. I'm just glad it's not the reverse. I would've lost it if I had spent weeks practicing soft tires/5% fuel to then be told at the last moment that it's mediums and 100% fuel. That would've been way worse to adjust to.

Yep this should be the case... in APAC at Spa two people got the bug and did quali on softs (I think they also did in the race on them however not certain on that.) At Hakone we switched to the practice+quali and 4 people qualified on softs. Then we all used softs in the race as we were directed to change them. Quali was still supposed to be on Mediums though. The same thing happened at Maple but this time 6 qualified on softs. Some of us (including me) got defaulted to softs in quali for Maple because we did the race at Hakone on softs. Some of us changed the tyres back to mediums in the pause menu, however others didn't.

Yeah agreed, it was very different. I actually apapted quite quickly somehow. My race in Hakone was a mess lol. Got up to P6 made a mistake and dropped to 11th. Then had an incident with the wall on the last corner again and dropped to 15th.... crawled back to 12th but man that was a pain lol.

Also I hit a red tyre that was on track at Spa...
