you turn and the wheel resists you and then stops where it thinks its enough steering angle, but it's not correct output cause you can definitely steer more and get more turn in out of it

so its basically useless

it shouldn't be called ffb but wheel force because it does not give you any feedback

Personally, i got a wheel a few days ago and with the right settings it’s thoroughly enjoyable on wheel, me and multiple of my friends all have a great time, if you’re looking to play the game for the social aspect, cruising, drag, meets etc, wheel is very enjoyable, but yeah you’re at a competitive disadvantage when it comes to track racing

It's WAY harder to get in this time, but the goods news is that everyone who makes it through Rivals is guaranteed to walk away with at least a little $$$. Also, the 2nd and 3rd qualifiers should be a lot easier since a good chunk of the fastest players will have already qualified by then. I like this format, as while you have to sweat the Rivals way harder than before, you're no longer at the risk of being eliminated during the semifinals and walking away empty-handed.

It's just a very difficult combination. You've really gotta be utilizing the handbrake, which is easier said than done. Not much you can do outside of studying the replays of the top times and just simply running laps and practicing. You'll start to see yourself get faster and faster.

Wheel is just as fast it's just not great on default settings. People are mostly complaining about the force feedback compared to other sims.

In the first season APAC's 1st and 2nd place finalists were on wheel.

There's wheel settings in the game you can fine tune and a lot of wheels have settings on the wheel itself. Key is finding a setup that feels natural for you.

If youre just getting into the competitive side its just time and repetition. If you keep pushing and studying top laps youll slowly start to see more time.

With consistent practice, you'll slowly but surely start to see yourself improve. A lot of the players in the top 50 have poured hundreds if not thousands of hours into Forza over the years to be able to set those kinds of lap times. As a teenager, I didn't have anything better to do in my free time, so Forza became my hyper-fixation thanks to my ADHD+OCD combo. 😅

I used to have that same problem until I got a Logitech Steering wheel, turned off all assist like abs, traction and stability… and yes it’s harder to drive, but the car slips, drifts and slides on corners to basically let you glide down the turns. In other words, high risk-high reward. Some other people I seen drive with manual-clutch which is insane.

The great thing about Forza is that you don't need an expensive wheel to be competitive. 99% of the fastest players in the game use an ordinary Xbox controller. If you'd like to try out my controller deadzone settings, here's a screenshot of what myself and a lot of other players use:

There's 2 ways to take it. Come in wide, cut the first curb trail braking 1st. Upshift 2nd to accel in the middle, then drop 1st again to rotate the car into the left, upshift 2nd to accel.

Other way has the same entry they just keep 2nd through the middle and exit.

First way requires tricky shift timing, second way requires throttle control. Pick your poison lol

I've found the trick is to upshift to gear 2 as soon as your right front tire touches the inner curb, then hit the Handbrake halfway through the corner to get the rotation needed to exit the corner without going wide. You've gotta be very gentle on the throttle, otherwise you'll wheelspin and cost yourself time going down the final straight. It's absolutely enraging how many banger laps I lost because I screwed it up in that last corner.

Is anyone having track rendering issues on this rival? I'm driving and the environment is disappearing around me, I initially thought it was an issue with my PC but I've switched over to the Xbox and it's even worse on there

Strange. I had that problem in the Maple Valley Rival back in season #1. It was ultimately because I had the game installed on an old mechanical drive instead of an SSD, and the drive wasn't fast enough to load the track textures correctly. I haven't had that problem since I switched to an SSD, but that's strange in your case since the Xbox Series X uses an SSD for storage.

I've been recording my laps and the recording software doesn't like it when the game track environment disappears, so on the recording it looks like slow motion lag. My plan was to switch to Xbox and use the Xbox recording feature, but this has the same problem. That sums up my Forza experience from 2016 to 2018. I was rarely within 2.0 seconds of the best players, and in some instances, I was off by as much as 6.0 seconds. I'm slow at learning things, but once I've learned it, I become obsessive and give it all of my energy until I've perfected said thing to the absolute best of my ability. 😅

Anyway, with consistent practice, you'll certainly see yourself improve! In summer 2016 when I started taking Forza more seriously, I could've only dreamed of being within a second of the best players, and now fast-forwarding to summer 2025, I'm able to consistently place between .400 and .900 off the fastest time in "big" time trial events like this one. It just takes a bunch of diligent practice over a long period of time, at least for me anyway. I spent two years being more than two seconds off the pace, then it was like a switch was flipped and it suddenly clicked.

If you have tcs and youre still spinning out, you need to learn how to manage throttle. Try ~10 laps without tcs so you learn throttle control. Then when you turn it back on the car will feel easy.

I used to do that on fm7 to figure the throttle out on GT's because tcs bog = time lost.

The fact that it's at the end of the lap makes it all the more punishing. You have to engine-brake into gear 1 going into the corner, then you've gotta hit the handbrake and upshift to gear 2 as soon as your front right tire touches the inner curb. You then have to hit the handbrake again halfway through the bus stop and do so while getting on the gas early enough to get good speed down the final straight. It's so easy to wheelspin, though, so this is way easier said than done.

The f1 games are also sim-cadey. There is no rally esports scene anymore, and the only real presence of gt3/4 esports is gt7, rennsport, or iracing. And iracing you don't get access to those cars until you get promoted out of rookies (or higher for gt3) and buy the car (on top of your subscription price)

I have a racing setup (TMX wheel with T-LCM pedals), but I reserve it strictly for Assetto Corsa, BeamNG, and DiRT Rally 2.0. I've tried it on Forza, and it feels very odd. I know I can refine my wheel settings to make it feel better on Forza, but I'm not going to go through that effort when I can just play on controller and have an infinitely more pleasant driving experience. FM'23 is better on wheel than the previous FMs, but it was still evidently made with controller use in mind. I don't like the subscription model of iRacing (iRenting), which is why I've stuck just to ACC in terms of more "serious" racing games.

Theyre not drifting though, spinning is losing time. Theyre handbraking entry for extra slip angle, lets them exit throttle sooner and shortnens the track. It is a dumb mechanic though

Keep at it! You might surprise yourself. The good news is that by the time the 3rd qualifier comes, making the top 5 should be a lot easier since a good chunk of the fastest players will already be through. For instance, if the 10 previously qualified players register a time and they're all within the top 10, 15th in the region would be good enough to see you through.

you are allowed to use them, they will slow you down to some extent. traction control is literally the car pulling out power to prevent the wheels from spinning out so modulating throttle and allowing some wheelspin thru certain corners is going to be faster

Don't feel at a disadvantage on controller, it's the go to method of play for even the top times

It's a hard combination. You've really gotta use the handbrake to get the time out of the car. If you haven't done so already, go to your controller settings and swap the handbrake from (A) to (LB). This will make handbraking a bit easier. Lightly taping the handbrake (LB) through each corner will give you extra rotation and allow you to get on the gas sooner, which shaves off significant amounts of time. It takes a lot of practice to get the timing and the pressure right, but once you've gotten it down, it'll shave seconds off.

Nice! Keep at it! Spa is entirely momentum based, so it's absolutely critical to nail that first corner as it sets up the rest of the lap. The more you do it, the more ingrained in your muscle memory it'll become, then it'll be second-nature.

I'm still not super great at handbraking compared to someone like Bowkett, but I'm way better at it than I used to be. It feels very unnatural at first. It also doesn't help that handbraking feels like complete RNG most of the time. It took me between 25 and 30 hours of effort over the course of a week and a half to get my current time. Based on my fastest split sectors, there's potential for a 50.1xx (possibly a very high 50.0xx), but my hands and sanity have been put through enough torture from this awful combination. 😅

Mostly smoother and less input delay, I dont think theres a big difference. Possibly smoother curb interactions.

Im on series x still so its hard to say what 240hz etc would do. Ive heard theres a slight advantage but I havent been able to test. Ill try some 60 vs 120 laps this weekend though.

Should be easier to see a grip difference on this track.

After switching from 60FPS to 120FPS and having a direct comparison from it, I can say that there is a noticeable difference

So much so that I went from my 56.5 on 60FPS, to taking the WR back (for now) and setting the first 56.3 on 120FPS

Bowkett plays on Xbox. Playing on PC is no more advantageous than playing on Xbox since update 10 was released in July of last year, which fixed the issue of lap times being tied to FPS. Playing at a higher FPS makes the game smoother, but it doesn't inherently result in faster lap times like it used to. I only notice a tenth or two difference at 60fps vs 120fps, and that's more down to margin of error than anything else.

The fact is there are some physics that run on what they call “the lower frequency engine” which is what’s tied to fps. Now while it’s unknown what exactly that engine runs, I think it’s fair to say any advantage from higher fps is negligible if it exists
