tho ig mascots using old outfits isnt unusual

theres outfits from the early 90s that i still see kitty and mimmy wearing sometimes

they were first used in at least 1991 from what ive found, second pic is from last year

in the old version, the bow on mimmy's dress was on the back

but the current version moved it to the front instead

hmmm id say onegai my melody is the most engaging (it feels more all-ages rather than specifically for children imo), but only the first 2 seasons have any translations available (english fansubs and you can find a few official dubs in other languages around the net, like the spanish, thai and korean dubs. others have a lot of lost eps tho sadly)

a few old ovas also have official english dubs and english fansubs around, im pretty sure the im pretty sure all of hello kitty's paradise (english) is somewhere online? but, id say that one is more nostalgic than engaging. the japanese episodes are also available but under a different name (and no subtitles)

theres a lot of sanrio stuff officially available online for free, but none of it is translated

if you dont mind having no translation and if you have iirc 500 yen (like 3$ usd) you can get a d-anime store sub which has a bunch of sanrio stuff, i know getting it through niconico lets you use paypal (which i had to go through since my bank doesnt like international payments)

iirc that has hello kitty ringo no mori, jewelpet, mewkledreamy, show by rock, rilu rilu fairilu, some 90s hello kitty ovas, an early 80s stop motion hello kitty short film, all 4 seasons of onegai my melody, uhhhh i think it has the early 2000s world masterpiece theater series? and some other various ovas for different characters

i think it also has that hello english series which was a show meant to teach little japanese kids a bit of basic english. watching it felt like a fever dream.

they released some new merch for him in japan last year after god knows how long, so i think that helped more people look into him

it was like. technically 6 episodes? but actually 2 that were both split into 3 parts

at least one of them had him speaking in it

i do find it interesting how hes seems pretty popular among american & other english-speaking fans especially but is very unknown in japan. from what i can tell there was quite a bit of merch of him in the us in the 2000s too

from what i can tell that va officially stopped voicing kitty in 1992

she and hayashibara both were voicing her in different things

1992 is also when mimmy got her longest-staying voice actress

the only thing ik abt jewelpet aside from the names are that one season had a romance between a jewelpet and a human or somethin like that

multiple sanrio anime has done that and it kinda amuses me. onegai my melody had multiple one-sided things like that

off the top of my head... kuromi's crush on the human hiiragi keiichi was brought up a whole lot. and even nowadays she seems to have a thing for human guys especially drhgfdhdgjn. there was a classmate (shiroyama) of the main human girl who seemed to have a crush on my melody (she didnt like him because he was kinda creepy about it. i think you need to really mess up for my melody to dislike you because she even acts friendly with the villain characters.)

my melody was pretty obsessed with another human girl who was friends with the main one (mana), and there seems to have been an old official book that used the color/name for the romantic relationships in the series for them (one-sided bc mana hates my melody because she hates anything cute). that bunny likes girls!

and both baku and the king of mariland were a bit obsessed with a specific human tennis player. and iirc the king liked a human weatherwoman as well in one episode.

at first i was thinking thats just normal in their world or something, but then in a season 3 episode kuromi mentions "forbidden love between a human and stuffed toy" (that is what they are in that series), so i have no clue if its actually forbidden or if she was just being dramatic (she is kuromi, after all)

sometimes my computer does a thing where the little corner shortcut icon will be changed to something else, and it ended up weirdly fitting the hkia icon this time lol

not sure why it does that, i cant find anyone else having the same thing happen, but it doesnt seem to be causing any issues and it goes back to normal when i refresh the desktop, so i just ignore it really

but its fun that it made it look like shes holding that

'85 is the year hangyodon debuted, so google mightve just gotten confused

the release dates can be confusing bc every site im finding that lists one is different 😭 lot of later rereleases that end up getting mixed up

im seeing 2006, 2002, and 1993 for the same ova

im gonna assume that the different sites saying the years are going off dvd rereleases because thats the versions they were given to put on their sites

a lot of sanrio anime originally released on vhs later got rereleased on dvd

usually bundled with multiple anime

from what i can tell the first hangyodom anime is from the early 90s

but i also cant tell which bc of all the rereleases making this confusing

i have to go off of secondhand listings images for the original releases kshskshsk

since they usually have the year on the box

i think that says 1992 but its super hard to read bc of the resolution

some jokes seem more oriented at the older audience, but ofc since its still an official manga for a kids show it has furigana so kids can read the kanji

which is also helpful for me since im still learning my kanji lol
