• Goalkeeper
  The Goalkeeper is meant to protect the Goal. You must be able to be a tall player who plays between the post. You must have strong reflexes, anticipation, great handling, and the ability to be well positioned and have composure to make the right decision in a one on one. There are other variations of the GK but that would be discussed today.

• Center-Back
  The CB main job is to stop the opposing players from reaching the Goal. No player except the GK can use his hands. They must be able to block or Clear the ball to safety. They can be used to win headers and duels(later in the guide) or be used to aggressive tackle the back line. In different systems they will be asked to play the ball direct or retain the ball.

• Left/Right Fullback
  The Fullback can be used to be a defensive wide cb to win duels and clear balls but they can be also used to gain width over the pitch. They must position themselves accordingly. They are the ones usually in a one on one with the winger and must win their challenge. Fullbacks can also be used as an attacking source providing overlaps, crosses, and through balls. How Fullbacks are played in Possession is a manager responsibility.

• Defensive Transition - The Transition from Attack to Defense. You will either try to re group, or to counter press the opponent.

• Oop = Out of Possession - People really dont know what this means so here it is. You will try to stay compact and narrow and be in the subphases Press, Contain, Protect. You can change your defensive line and your block height. later on we will talk about Zonal and Man Marking.

Attacking Transition - The transition from defence to attack. Either you hold or shape for more possession or hit them on the counter.
