Hello, I'm a football fan looking to join the NFL Big Data Bowl 2025. Seeking teammates who share my passion for the game and data projects—let's collaborate!
Inquiring about a partner, I use R, recently graduated in my degree in mathematics and I work as a data analyst for my states labor department! Feel free to add me and good luck to all!
Hi everyone - I competed last year (didn't place) but was hoping to try again with a team if anyone is interested. This is my submission from last year if you want to get an idea of my work: https://www.kaggle.com/code/mvoulo/what-makes-a-good-tackle-etsr-tackle-index
Hey are you still seeking for teammates?
If anyone is looking for a teammate or to form a team, let’s chat. I’m a big football fan with a passion for data projects and ready for a challenge. Good luck to everyone
have you started looking at the data yet? and/or have you competed in the big data bowl in the past?
Hi all, I'm also interested in working with a team. I'm a recent master's grad who has worked on mostly computer vision projects, but I'm a football fan and very excited to work on this competition. I have explored the data a bit and have played around with visualizing individual plays.
I’m just starting to dig into the data and getting familiar with structure and key variables. I haven’t competed in the Big Data Bowl before, but I’m excited to jump in and tackle it this year!
Looking for teammate(s) to work on a specific idea for likely the "coaching track".
I bring experience in technical NFL writing, publication of complex data sets to NFL analytics audience, in-person presentation skills. Lacking in coding experience. DM me if you want to chat further.
Hey, how about to collaborate with me on "NFL-BIG-DATA-BOWL-2025" competition?
Hey Megan, I would like to team up with you for this year’s competition. Are you interested?
DM'd you
Hi everyone, I'm looking to join a team as well! I hope I'm not too late joining in, but I just learned about the Big Data Bowl and it sounds right up my alley. I'm a recent master's grad in analytics and data science, and I'm a big football fan. I mainly code in R, but I'm looking into learning more Python as well. DM me if you'd be interested in working together. Thanks!
I dm you
Hello folks, I'm looking to team up with someone! I have been freelancing as a Data Specialist for more than two years now. I'm excited to dive into the NFL data and collaborate with a talented team. I'm looking forward to learning from everyone and contributing my Python skills to the project. I can dedicate 1-2 hours per day. Let's build something awesome together!
Hi everyone, I'm a full-time data scientist but still very new to the field, this is going to be my first Kaggle competition. I'm really into sports and looking for a team, please DM me.
Hey everyone, I'm looking for a teammate for the NFL Big Data Bowl! I'm a computer science master's student and current college basketball player, so super interested in the intersection between sports and technology. DM me if you wanna chat!
hello, i'm new here, i need to join one team
hii I'm loking a team are you interest ?
Okay
lookng to join a team
It's really an open ended competition. There is no result, per se, to be predicted. A lot of AI is problem solving. This one combines problem finding, so to speak, as well. In the context of Football. Intriguing. Past submissions: https://www.kaggle.com/competitions/nfl-big-data-bowl-2025/discussion/542995
Of course pre-snap behavior to post snap outcomes is key here
Hey everyone! I am currently a student in Canada and looking to compete in this NFL Big data bowl.
I have been working on a model and have acheived an overall accuracy of about 85% with 0.91 ROC- AUC of a pre snap binary classification task for pun vs pass.
If there are any more experienced AI / ML Engineers around that would maybe be willing to contact me and give me some pointers that would be awesome and greatly appreciated. Thanks!
@crystal comet Sent you a DM in case you are still looking
Hi all,
How does one get paired with a coach for the coaching track? I know a couple of college football coaches in my area but I dont know what the process is for making them a collaborator or how they call them
ok sent you a DM
Awesome! Just replied
hello guys. Is anyone here taking the undergraduate path for the competition? I would just like to know what are the things you have done, like just to check if i have missed out any steps or not. Thank you!
Please explain to me what are the conditions to compete this track. I don't know what they mean I'm from Paris.
Hi, everyone. I'm looking for a team member and I'm kaggle novice. I have deep understanding RL and Causal AI. Before that, I experienced multi agent systems and high frequency trading and market neutral strategy. Yes, also, I'm going to collaborate in jane streeet competition. Recently, I can work for more than 5 hours in kaggle competitions.
If you are more than kaggle expert, that's better. But that's not necessity.
Also, I'm going to try AI research in the near future and hope long collabrations.
If you are passionate with AI, please hit me.
Hey, I have managed to find the missing birthdays on players.cvs you can check the dataset at https://www.kaggle.com/datasets/matthieusibert/nfl-players-with-birthday-except-one/data
Hey everyone. I am looking to join a team. I am currently getting my masters in Data Science and have a bachelor's in computer science. I am super passionate about the nfl so I am interested in combining both my passion for data and sports.
Was watching the saints yesterday & though Does motioning really matters once it’s guys like Derek Carr (QB) going away from the play ? he was lined up as a outside receiver w/ Tyson hill @QB
It can, it just depends on what plan/scheme the defense is running.
Generally speaking, it would be insane to simply not cover a player on the field (as minimal of a threat that a QB lined up as a WR is). A body is a body is a body, and that body is capable of impacting a play either as a receiver, a blocker, or as a way to gain information on the defense.
With this play specifically, it was a 4th and 1 from the opponent 33. The Saints are in a version of "jumbo" or "heavy" personnel (from the looks of it) which is characterized by having an extra OL, no WRs, and either an extra RB or an extra TE.
There is only 1 TE to the left side / field side of the ball, but the rest of the bodies are aligned on the opposite side towards the boundary. This is important, since Carr also motions to this side of the ball, and it causes the second-level defenders to change assignments (you can see #9 telling #43 to shift over).
Putting a hat on a hat, this forces #9 to cover Carr, leaves both of the Browns' LBs (WLB and MLB) effectively covering the same area, and therefore puts #43 in a 2v1 versus the outside-most Saints players on the right.
after the snap, you see the WLB (#42?) get caught in the middle doing nothing since he and the MLB are covering the same area, #9 removed from the play and too far out to impact anything quick enough, and #43 getting out-leveraged due to the ultimate numbers advantage that the Saints had on that side. Allowing Hill to run free mostly unopposed
Great break down so ultimately the disguise actually helped to gain the first down since no communication was given to the LBs to shift also
has anyone figured out if there are a specific set of circumstances which cause possessionTeam to be empty? Perhaps when posession changes via turnover? I haven't figured that one out
wow. it's a kneel
interesting
@waxen dawn the short version is: there's no way for us to know with 100% certainty without asking the Browns' DC himself, but IMO:
I would say that this is probably more of a case where the Saints took advantage of a tendency that they spotted in the Browns' defense, rather than say that there was no communication by the defense at all.
With that said, it could very well be a little bit of both happening. You can clearly see that one Browns DB (#9 at the top who covered Carr) communicating with his inside help, so there was definitely some exchange being made there and we can assume that their coverage responsibilities are intertwined in some way (if this guy goes this way then he's mine, if he goes that way then he's yours, etc.). And even though the LBs didn't seem visibly involved in that communication, that doesn't mean that their assignments aren't reacting and changing too.
Regardless of if whether LBs' responsibilities are changing or not during that communication, the Saints seem to have spotted a tendency of some sort that they were able to take advantage of. For example, they might have seen the Browns defense against a similar heavy personnel in the past, saw what their DBs and LBs were responsible for in their assignments, then created a play scheme to counter it and use their defensive rules against them.
I love this play in particular because it highlights how dangerous a player like Hill can be. He creates mismatches all over the field due to his ability to be impactful as a passer, runner, receiver, or blocker.
Let's take away the fact that there's a QB lined up outside; even if there WAS a regular receiver out there, just look at this formation that they're in. It's like a goal-line play with goal-line personnel, but the QB is lined up in shotgun empty with no RB with him. How many plays even exist like this for the Browns to study and prepare for? Even if there were a few, is that enough of a sample size to take the limited time during the week to bake into a gameplan? Hell no! The Browns players on the field may have done everything that their coach told them to do perfectly well, it's just great scheming on the Saints part.
Hello, is anyone in the undergraduate track and still looking for a team? I know it is kind of late but I'd love to join someone's team if they are willing to have me. I am a freshman and kind of new to AI/ML but would love to learn more if anyone has an empty spot!
Hello, I am a newbie
I know machine learning but haven't participated in any contest. I was thinking to start with this competition.
Am I being stupid?
The problem statement tells that it requires no DL model so I can train it on colab or local pc with gpu but statement is complicated
is this a RL problem?
Under the requirements it says that any submission not using the player tracking data will not be scored. Does this mean that I have to use one of the tracking_week# files to have a valid submission?
The problem, well there isn't really one. Data is given of measurables b4 snap, and after snap. The challenge is akig this info actiable or predictive (the forer includes both). Good luck
if you have nfl pro can you find a play's film using a gameId, playId combo?
who am I kidding its NGS surely you can
update - you cant
Hey everyone, I know there's been a lot of talk about notebook spam with code that's not really targeted at the competition. I tried to compile a list of the most competitive entries so far this year if anyone wants to take a look: https://www.kaggle.com/competitions/nfl-big-data-bowl-2025/discussion/554993
Hey guys...just need a small help
I want to submit my nfl bowl eda but I am unable to as submissions only accept CSV files
Anyone knows how to submit this project
You have to submit your notebook with the link to the google form that is listed on the competition info.
Hi everyone. I submitted my competition notebook yesterday but didn't get a confirmation email. Did it make it in?
Looking forward to seeing the winning projects on this one. Best if you've submitted
FYI 2025 Big Data Bowl finalists will be announced tomorrow, Weds 1/29, at 12 noon EST
