Very stupid question, but I am new to the competition in coding in general. Where do I find the data to download, Ik the competition lists pfr and nflverse but how do I download either of those so i can get started

I've got some questions,

  1. Is the tracking data provided the full tracking data for every line of scrimmage play through the first 9 weeks of the 2022 season?

  2. Is it permissible to go back and use tracking data from previous Big Data Bowls to generate insights?

This looks fun

Any analytics competition further will not reward medals nor points?

While digging through some of the play by play data sets, I found that there are no recorded plays where there are incompletions, is this because there's no tackler on the play? Or am I missing something

#

Ok it also doesn't have kneel downs at the end of a game, assuming this is also because there's no tackler

#

It seems that there's also fumbles but no interceptions

#

so I was wrong when I said every LOS play ๐Ÿคฃ

elder oriole
#

yeah ive noticed that as well

#

it also includes some touchdowns and not others?

#

i thought maybe this was because theres potentially a pff_missedtackle on the play but there's not

#

so idk whats up with that either

#

seems like on pass plays the tracking starts once the ball carrier gains control, anyone else notice that?

#

run plays start at snap

Are we limited to specific R packages when submitting a notebook? If so, where can I find the list of all available R packages to use?

hey guys im a high schooler interested in sports analytics who has done many projects and am looking for a team for this possibly or just general advice

@hoary dune read "Artificial Intelligence: A modern Approach" if you do not have any background in machine learning. Pick and choose what information you need know right now because it is a long read. If you do have a background in it then I would attempt to watch videos and or learn some practical knowledge on training models.

If you are using python must need libraries are pandas and numpy. from there there are a few more depending on how you want to code it

hoary dune
#

ah ok yeah ive done projects involve machine learning but havent really gone to the AI side, thanks!

#

dont know if adveritinsg here is allowed but you guys can check some of my projects on Amrit Vignesh on linkedin/medium and just created an X @avsportsanalyst

its is a lot of hard math but it does break down the concepts however. what it does not have is the practical side like how to make a piece of code thats where seeing other peoples projects in general (not necessarily in the competition but how to do stuff in general)

Anybody using R for their BDB project? Need help with a custom function to save the plays from the tracking data as gifs all at once

how do i sign up for this competition? i am new to kaggle and coding and stuff, and for some reason it says 0 participants and 0 teams and stuff

#

idk how to sign up

#

also i don't know anything about data analysis... is it even worth it to try and start and finish in the next 3 weeks

#

idk if i'll actually do this competition... but if someone wants a team member who is a beginner but willing to learn... maybe dm me

I suggest you to start with the getting started competitions in order to gain experience

Hey guys im having a slight issue trying to upload and was wondering if anyone knew how to about it? I saved the kaggle provided data to my computer and then did it on r studio that way, but now when trying to upload its giving me issues trying to save those to the kaggle, and its giving me issues when i change the data file to the kaggle provided one. Anyone know the proper way to fix this?

๐Ÿ‘‹ Hi Kaggle Community, I hope everything went well with your submissions for NFL big data bowl!

I hope this is fine to post hear, apologies if not.

I thought this may be of interest to those who are involved in this competition.

I'm Harry, deeply intersted in sports analytics, especially in soccer/football. ๐Ÿฅ…โšฝ I'm currently developing an ML model using xgboost to predict the number of goals in a match.

๐Ÿ“ˆ So far in my model:

Implemented mean target encoding for teams.
Used rolling averages of each teams goals scored and conceded.
Extracted date-based features.

I'm eager to connect with others who are passionate about sports analytics and machine learning. I am keen to hear suggestions that could enhance the accuracy of my model.

If you're into data-driven sports predictions or have experience in this arena, I'd love to chat!

I know the version that's supposed to be graded is the one from the submission deadline, but mine was failing and I didn't realize it, and had to move all my plots into github since they wouldn't appear in the notebook (I've never worked with kaggle before) so I just wanted to let the graders know
