I have been an operations research engineer for 3 years, during which I self taught myself data analysis and data science, and got the opportunity to build an industry data pipeline from A to Z on my own to present a dashboarding tool to the client containing useful visualizations and predictions for them to better lead their business.

Althrough i have severe impostor syndrom 😅 I think I have the skills it takes, I just recently finally got hired in an actual Data Scientist position which will start this coming january.

As I will be mainly working on time series data in my next job, I am probably going to invest myself in #child-mind-institute-detect-sleep-states as my first Kaggle Competition!

The tremendous progress in generative AI has made the generation and manipulation of synthetic data easier and faster than before. To this end, multiple use cases are benefitting from it. The negative aspect of this progress and wide adoption of generative AI is deepfakes. Audio/image/video of an individual(s) is manipulated using generative methods without permission from the individual(s). This can make them be shown saying or doing something, which they may not have done in real. These unethically manipulated videos, popularly known as deepfakes have wide repercussions and negative effects on society in the form of the deepfakes’ potential in spreading disinformation and misinformation. Deepfakes unfortunately are used for trolling online as well. Authentication systems such as video KYC (Know Your Customer) are also not resilient as often face recognition and verification systems are deceived when high-quality deepfakes are used. To this end, it is important for platforms and systems to be able to identify if manipulation has been performed on a media. These systems, which detect and analyse the deepfakes are referred to as deepfakes detectors.

The 1M-Deepfakes Detection Challenge comprises of two sub-tasks:

a. Deepfake Detection – Given an audio-visual sample containing a single subject, the task is to identify if the video is a deepfake or real.

b. Deepfakes Temporal Localisation – Given an audio-visual sample containing a single subject, the task is to find out the frames (time stamps) in which the manipulation is done. The assumption here is that from the perspective of spreading misinformation, editing a few vital parts of a video may be enough to change the meaning of the original video, and at the same time, the quality of the deepfake video will be closer to the original compared to a deepfake in which the entire original video is manipulated.

I'm totally new to Kaggle (novice, registered a week ago) although I worked with ML previously as part of my bachelor thesis and some (small) research projects. I don't have any previous ML competition experience, but I'm really eager to learn. I will be ready to invest 10-20 hours a week.

I'm looking for a tutor (as a teammate or in general) to get me started and to teach me the skills during the current Kaggle competitions. I'm mostly interested in the Leash Bio competition (and Home Credit although I guess it's a bit late), but I'm open to all the others. As I believe in the importance of a great tutor, I would be seeking someone who is experienced, and has dedication for ML competitions (a Grandmaster or a Master would be really, really nice). Hi everyone,

I'm from Melbourne, Australia, so the time zone is a bit out of whack, but I'm definitely interested in connecting with like-minded people to learn and explore this journey together. Would love to share ideas, insights, and to be involved in an environment where we support each other.

I consider myself a beginner hobbyist. In my own time outside of work, I've spent countless hours in AI and ML over the past year, crafting, testing, developing... and ummm getting sidetracked with new ideas (my brain tends to run wild with ideas). Whether it's trying to crack the lottery, applying techniques to train my own models in digital marketing (which is what I currently work in), or other concepts around pets, I just love learning and find AI and ML to be an exciting space.

Coming from a previous financial background, I tend to have an analytical and logical mindset that enjoys problem-solving. I worked with MJ and I have challenged the AI ​​software since 2022, trying to guide the generation of images of women with breast cancer.
MJ failed to generate images without anatomical errors or delimiting the disease to breast cancer.
The cancer was the target of the image.
These women, in addition to having torn bodies, have a particular beauty in their faces as if they were photo models.

So the BIAS of the AI ​​software in this case is twofold:
1️⃣ The first is not knowing how to delimit a disease as a Breast Cancer, to the affected area (for the AI software the whole body has cancer, but it is not like that).
2️⃣ The second is creating images of very beautiful women, not at all affected by the disease. (We have to ask what data the Midjourney dataset implemented. The photos of models are certainly superior to those of women with breast cancer).
