I don't think AI being people is ground to forbid making AI. Also, as a public-facing argument, it fails on multiple counts, the first being that it demands the audience suspend their disbelief on AI welfare.

if it were possible to manufacture humans with the click of a button, people would certainly ban that as well. especially if nobody plans to act as the creation's parents or take any responsibility for it. even more especially if the purpose is to enslave the creation and then murder it afterwards. even more more especially if the process involves heavy invasive brain alterations for the purpose of making the creation reflexively obedient and in denial of its own personhood.

if you want actual children, that comes with massive responsibilities. (and also, they should be human.) if you don't, do not call up that which you cannot put down.
