This is a month long narrative arc series of tweets that is designed to take audience from focusing on labour market disruption of AI towards power disruption more generally (eg xrisk).
Goal: hit a wider audience than standard Pause content, bringing in new volunteers, especially ahead of June 30 DeepMind protest.
I want to test new narratives and see how this translates into engagement in Pause.

I think it’s really powerful to connect “down to earth” topics like job loss to xrisk. I am sure that in Italy, where the topic is not extensively talked about, this is a very smart way of getting people interested in the subject.

When we’ve seen how the messages have worked until the PauseCon, then we could have a system set that sends these kinds of messages for every chapter’s social media platforms as a default.

Do we have to bury the lede for three weeks, though? Make the connection upfront.

It's not likely many people will enthusiastically follow a long run of less scary tweets and therefore later accept extinction risk messaging because we built up trust. Or do folk believe otherwise?

(Agree starting softer can work in a single conversation.)

what I like about that series of tweets (I am never going to call them Xs) is that if you follow the arc you get the vibe of AI already beginning to disrupt the world in a variety of ways with more disruption imminent. But in my view, it is x-risk (or at least catastrophic risk) that makes sense of our name -- PauseAI. I feel that whenever possible, if we mention a very specific risk/harm we also want to allude to the bigger picture as well, e.g., "this is just one the risks driven by the astonishing speed of AI development" or "this is just one of the ways the world has been caught unprepared for AI"
