#Biden on AI "most consequential technology (perhaps) of all time" & beating China on the race

Would've been nice if he addressed this issue more head on during his term instead of letting it slide
Too little too late
And again it doesn't matter who wins the race if the AI goes rogue anyway
I think he had good intentions but the wrong approach
Two years into the single biggest wakeup call to date that AGI is just around the corner, and the departing POTUS is still thinking too small.
Looking to the near future, I wonder what it will take to convince Trump that winning the race to AGI is how he would lose power.
When the Jobs starts to go he probably won't be bothered until then but Musk will convince him
To be fair he has spoken out on his concerns with AI before
Oh no he just passed an EO accelerating capabilities.
I don't think we'll hit a power bottleneck before dangerous capabilities emerge, so I don't take this as much of a blow. Still not a great signal, and more concerning for people with longer timelines.
Nah they just giving them land for servers n shit.
Oh heavens. That's worse than what I was thinking, for sure.
Hmm...
Strengthening lab-security requirements and evaluating the national security implications of AI models developed on federal sites. The evaluations will assess models for risks to safety and security, as well as their potential to advance national-security objectives.
There is a narrow opportunity for this to go well for us. Silver linings. 😬
In Biden's mind it's US 1st 2nd bad
More safety testing isn't a bad thing to be fair
Yeah like I said the wrong approach
Seems like it's mainly about building infrastructure
