#A Doomsday Clock for AI

Good article, we should boost it
The one thing I dislike is that the doomsday clock is further from 12 than the atomic one is, which seems to imply nuclear threat is far more immediately relevant
To be fair, the two could be very closely linked, now that AI datacenters are planning on being powered by nuclear energy.
That would make power plants the same type of target to adversarial militaries as weapons manufacturing centers. If your enemy is using AI-enabled autonomous drones, targeting nuclear power plants that feed their datacenters would be a viable strategy accepted by all parties involved.
Does the “nuclear threat” clock only count weapons, or does it also include nuclear accidents or sabotage? That’s an important distinction when we’re considering the exponential rise of nuclear power plants powering datacenters and those servers being used for weaponized technologies.
No the clock is about nuclear war, which is orders of magnitude worse than any nuclear power plant accident
Well, it makes sense. Going by the outside view, AI doom is at ~10% but WW3 (probably involves nukes) is at 30% on Metaculus. You can hardly expect them to be hardcore doomers.
WW3 is unlikely to involve nuclear weapons as the MAD principle applies.
One man's modus ponens is another's modus tollens: you can also consider that MAD guarantees that everyone would die.
