The title is "Protesters Are Fighting to Stop AI, but They’re Split on How to Do It", but the contents really don't reveal any substantial disagreement IMO. The author interviewed @subtle creek, me, @gritty walrus and @brittle orbit. He also took a look in this discord server.

IMO the article is very fair and positive. It has a lot of good quotes. I think we should be happy with this! <@&1174794269182136391>

WIRED

PauseAI protests are underway in London, New York, San Francisco, and across the globe. Its members have wildly different opinions on what the group should do next.

“What do we want? Safe AI! When do we want it?” The protesters hesitate. “Later?” someone offers.

The group of mostly young men huddle for a moment before breaking into a new chant. “What do we want? Pause AI! When do we want it? Now!”
"

Why quote that 😂

Wired headlines are consistently pretty bad lol

Good headline from a clickbait perspective which is good for us and bad for the readers 🤷

Ahh yeah I do feel ever so slightly betrayed haha. He was so friendly! I guess I've gotten too used to highly positive articles and that can't last forever. Besides the headline it is pretty accurate.

I think that's a really, really bad headline, and I think that's very bad for us. It makes us look weak and disorganized. It's irrelevant if the article is good, because most people will not read the article. They'll see the headline, laugh (at us) and move on with their time.

#

That said, I'd actually be very curious to know whether the reporter wrote the headline, or if it was changed by the editors.

Hmm good point especially since it’s paywalled

But like, I'd expect nothing else from Wired.

Is it worth writing to thank him for the great article but ask why that headline was chosen (given the scarce evidence supporting it)?

I reached out to Matt, he agrees about the headline. It was picked by editors, not by matt. This apparently is how the press world works sometimes.

I'm really unconvinced the headline even looks that bad on us to be honest. If anything it further gives the impression of a movement uniting quite diverse interests

It makes us look disorganized. That's really what it boils down to.
