We've become numb to mind boggling technological progress
No we haven't we are aware and responding
You're right, but seeing stuff like this for some reason doesn't even create the response in myself that I feel like it should.
I'm hoping this was partially staged.
But either way, it's a wake-up call. AI corporations are angling for applying their multimodal large models to robotics.
To automate human jobs involving physical labour.
I would have been carefully selected and controlled. Still it's a worrying trend
That's normal. Being surprised repeatedly would show that you fail to predict future developments to be as mind-boggling as past developments.
If you update appropriately, you should have guessed such impressive feats when earlier things happened, so all the mind-boggling happened back that.
It's interesting to see this conversation evolving. A few years ago it was, "I'm not going to worry about AI until it can pass the Turing test." Then it became "I'm not going to worry about AI until it's hooked up to the internet," then "until it's multimodal," then "until it's hooked up to robots." I feel like what's really being said here is, "I'm not going to worry about AI until it literally starts killing people."
