Mana can be obtained from selling poor quality runes and artifacts from the Cairos Rune and Artifact Dungeons, and will be your primary source of income. You can also get Mana from events, daily challenges/calendar, and selling craft materials (?craft).

You can manage how much Mana you spend by only powering up runes and artifacts to +3/+6 to determine their worth, rather than power-up straight to +12, and by moving a lot of your runes and builds around during Free Rune Removal (?frr).

Mana Starvation
This is one of the biggest issues that beginners will face when starting the game. With the drastic increase in purple rune drop rate since reloaded, it is hard to roll runes which are upgrades while also maintaining a healthy mana profile.

This is something players making a new account will notice as well. It is very normal. The solution I've come up with is not a simple one, and it may be difficult to understand. I'm going to try my best to explain it though, because it's a multi step process.

Before reading this, read through #1048710794373771326. You will need to in order to understsand the ideas I am speaking about.

  1. Rune Standards - This one is very difficult, because when it comes down to it, almost all runes you are going to find are going to be upgrades in the beginning. The previous approach described in our rune guide just doesn't quite cut it, when we are strictly talking about comparing to the best you have and then deciding what to keep. Try to only keep runes that will be significant upgrades in the beginning, as the mana cost to +12/+15 is simply too high otherwise. You can be more lenient on slot 2/4/6 with this, but try to not jump at every upgrade you get - you aren't in a rush to leave giants. Take your time and farm higher quality runes.

  2. Rune Appearance Frequency vs Rune Needs - While you're farming giants, you are going to find certain runes with higher frequency than others. For example, you will, on average, find more swift runes with HP% in slot 1 than ATK% runes with desirable subs. Additionally, you are going to need less energy slot one runes with HP%. Because of this, if you find a rune that you think you want to use that is a slot one with HP%, you can consider only rolling the rune if The other subs align with what you would be looking for. You can also consider selling runes that come with low rolls. Since you'll see this rune many times, you shouldn't be afraid of missing out on a potentially usable rune by selling it. Don't be afraid of making mistakes - this is one of the best ways to learn runing. Which is when you go to rune a monster and you cannot because you lack the runes required. Don't stress too much about niche runes you will use way later on either. If you end up needing certain runes later on, you can just come back and farm for them. Hoarding runes is stressful and will inhibit your progression. Our goal of long-term progression here applies to learning, which means making mistakes is going to happen, and as long as you continue to work towards learning, you have nothing to worry about.

  3. Broken runes - These are no longer prioritized in the same way that they were before. When you find an exceptional quality broken rune, you will keep it, but you need to be much harsher on broken runes than before. If you find a rune with 3 synergistic substats, you should still roll it regardless of the set. But players should be more harsh on broken runes, especially in regards to their rolls. Part of the reason these are less important is because of Intangible runes. You can use intangible runes to complete sets you previously would be unable to complete. You should be paying very close attention to your intangibles. A lower quality intangible will help you complete sets that you would otherwise be unable to complete.

  4. Dailies - You should always be doing all the dailies that you can. I wouldn't worry about the rift ones until you can get at least S rank, but it's basically free resources, and the mana adds up. 200k mana may not seem like that much to you, but if you do your dailies every day, it will make a significant difference long term. If you do your dailies every day for a year, that is 73,000,000 mana. Not bad if you ask me for a couple extra taps every day!
