Which downloader do you use? It should actually work using the official r6-downloader.
You'll find a ThrowbackLoader.toml file in the game folder. You can change your name there. Don't forget to save the file.

Then you likely made a mistake
Additionally, you have the option to add a custom_user_id

Example

custom_user_id = 'ThrowbackUser' # used to override the default user id ("R6Throwback_" followed by the season name), leave blank to use the default setting. This setting controls the foldername in Documents\Rainbow Six - Siege
