The plugin has a setting to disable hologram display for clients below 1.19.4. But older versions don't have displays at all, so does this setting make sense?

Although I would like to stay on FancyHolograms, but for the old clients to also display holograms, so that the server supports a wide range of clients

Plugin Compatibility

There is no compatibility guarantee for these plugins:

  • ViaVersion, ViaBackwards and ViaRewind
    Clients on versions above 1.19.4 should not experience too much issues but some may still occur. Any problems specific to a certain client version are not going to be addressed here, but should instead be reported to Via.
  • Geyser
    Java and Bedrock are two completely different platforms. Holograms and NPCs are more than likely to be displayed incorrectly for Bedrock users. No effort will be put into fixing these issues, as they usually originate from Geyser.

We have no intent in supporting client versions that differ from the server version. We have no plans to fix other plugins' issues or addressing protocol differences that should instead be properly done in the packet translation plugin you're using. So likely ViaVersion / ViaBackwards.

Keep in mind these sort of issues are likely out-of-scope for ViaVersion / Geyser as well. It's difficult to correctly display an entity for a client that have absolutely no idea about that entity. (so 1.19.4 and lower)

The reason this setting exist is because should be possible to use FancyHolograms to display holograms for 1.19.4+ players, and other holograms plugin (that is based on armor stands) to display them for 1.19.3 and lower.

I understand that supporting multiple clients isn't your responsibility and is generally difficult to implement for such a task. But essentially, if this setting is disabled, legacy clients still won't see holograms. I still don't understand this setting.

As far as I know they will see them as floating armor stand (visible or not) with a custom name. No new lines, no "fancy" features (such as transparent background, text shadow, scale).

If they don't appear regardless of this option being set, then we can probably remove it.

This option is disabled and holograms are not visible to old clients.
