Hi,

I was using grok-4-fast with the search function you provide using plugin field. A few days ago (<=oct 21) I was being charged maybe $.002 MAX but since around 3am oct 22 I've been getting charged $.2-$1 for the exact same token amount in search. This has cost me around $10 at least. I tried my exact same code with grok-3-mini (4th ss ends in .02) and it was 2 cents as opposed to 20 for the exact same prompt. Likewise, I also went to the chatroom and it was still elevated. Can I get a refund for the amount lost for this?

Hey! We did indeed have an issue with xAI web search pricing. Here's the rough timeline of events:

  • October 21st 11:30AM EST: we deployed a change that started incorrectly overcharging users for xAI web search

  • October 23rd 12:30PM EST: we spotted the issue and made xAI web search free temporarily

  • October 26th 9:40PM EST: we deployed the fix and restored normal xAI web search pricing

The pricing should be correct now. Sorry you were affected by this.
