We have a very active openrouter account we use it to power several of our multi modular agents, however none of them use Claude 4 Opus.

Yesterday we got charged for 500 dollars worth of Claude 4 Opus credits in a matter of hours, we do not understand how this happened and are wondering if you can help us look into it.

Thank you.

I'm an AI assistant - my answers may be incorrect and I cannot see screenshots. Please verify information with the OpenRouter docs.

For unexpected charges, here’s what you should do:

  1. Review your detailed usage in the Activity page to see which API keys, models, and requests resulted in the Claude 4 Opus charges. According to the documentation: "The Activity page allows users to view their historic usage and filter the usage by model, provider and api key" OpenRouter FAQ.
  2. Note the relevant generation IDs and any suspicious or unexpected API calls.
  3. If you believe these charges are in error or need deeper investigation, contact mods through the Discord server and provide them with the generation IDs and details. This will help them investigate quickly. The docs specify: "The best way to get support is to join our Discord and ping us in the #help forum" OpenRouter FAQ.

For billing issues where you’re not 100% certain about the cause, escalation to support is recommended.

Let me know if you need help finding your usage details or have other questions.

I AM in the discord help, that is where you are sending this message, how do I open a ticket or make sure support sees this?

To make sure support sees your issue in the Discord help forum:

  1. Gather details: Include affected API keys, relevant generation IDs, and a summary of what happened. You can find usage and generation IDs on your Activity page. According to the docs: "The best way to get support is to join our Discord and ping us in the #help forum" and "Share the generation ID with mods for investigation" OpenRouter FAQ | Free models.
  2. Tag the @mod or @staff roles directly in your help thread message to alert them.
  3. Provide all necessary details in a single, clear message.

There’s currently no formal ticketing system—tagging mods in your help thread is the recommended way to escalate urgent billing issues. If you don’t get a response, you can also email [email protected].

For more, see the OpenRouter FAQ.
