From what i've read, it seems that the game is gaining momentum among those few who have tried the beta, but at the same time it's failing to resonate with the more casual Crash audience who may have preferred another experience. It is a symptom of a sort of anathema that has existed since the announcement, in particular due to the modern and non-nostalgic nature of the game, and seems to persist despite word of mouth for many. In other words, there is rejection no matter what for all sorts of reasons, even in the presence of positive reports, which generates a poisonous counter-chatter composed of prejudices. A negative word of mouth.
The solution is to get more people to try the game, and it badly needs that. We (my community and I) were skeptical ourselves, but we've almost all changed our minds playing the beta. And believe me, some were very, very critical before trying it.
Word of mouth, marketing, hands-on, reviews, influencers are certainly all important, but in my opinion a short and publicized open beta could be crucial. Even just a weekend.
