hey y’all, I’d like to report an issue and also make a suggestion to the developers.
I was using cellular data and opened Pocket Poster to download wallpapers. While I was doing that, a friend asked if I could enable my Wi-Fi hotspot for him. I turned it on using my main Samsung phone, which has a much larger data plan than my iPhone. However, before enabling the hotspot, I had already downloaded one wallpaper using cellular data (the Minecraft chest wallpaper).
After that, I downloaded another wallpaper the Kanye West Graduation album one, and this caused Pocket Poster to jump to the top data usage on both my iPhone’s cellular data usage list and my Samsung phone’s Wi-Fi hotspot usage (which my iPhone automatically connected to).
In the first image, Pocket Poster shows 7.82 GB of data usage this month. In the second image, my iPhone shows 3.17 GB of data usage on my Samsung hotspot.
(The dark blue dot represents my iPhone 12, and the light blue dot represents my friend’s iPhone.)
If you check these wallpapers on the website, their file sizes aren’t even close to 3 GB, let alone more than that.
I suspect this issue is caused by the wallpaper previews in the app, which appear to load multiple video previews at the same time. with that here are my suggestions:
Allow users to toggle preview autoplay in the settings, or automatically disable autoplay when using cellular data.
Replace video previews with static images, and add an extra button next to the download button to view the preview video
And the less intuitive one: replace the in-app wallpaper download page with a link to download wallpapers directly from the website, which is much lighter and uses significantly less data.
