I'm trying to download zen on Ubuntu linux and I'm having trouble getting it to show up as a desktop icon I can pin to my taskbar. I recently did some spring cleaning and installed a fresh ubuntu, but on my previous system zen worked perfectly fine and I was able to pin it to my taskbar like a any other application. I'm kinda new to linux, so that might be the source of my problem, but I've tried every download option and it's made the zen app hidden beneath a bunch of different folders and things and then when I open the app, I can't pin it to my taskbar. Furthermore, it just shows a gear icon rather than the zen logo.

Are you using the tarball?
Yes
Try using the tarball installer on the GitHub page (the bash command)
bash <(curl -s https://updates.zen-browser.app/install.sh)
When I do I get this error:
Extracting Zen Browser...
xz: (stdin): File format not recognized
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
also how do I get my text to look like code like that }:3
Hmmm
Is there any more info?
Not to my knowledge, that's all I'm given
It's your trusty old tar.xz why wouldn't it be capable of extracting that

Same thing
Can you curl -L -o ~/zen.tar.xz https://github.com/zen-browser/desktop/releases/latest/download/zen.linux-x86_64.tar.xz?

That is the result. No text, just that and then returns to the cli input
So can you see if there's a tarball on your home directory
There should be a file named Zen.tar.xz
There is
Open in and see if the contents are normal
Send me a list if you don't know
It seems normal to me? It looks to be what was in the zen folder from the other times I tried to download it
I'm realizing this might be a problem with my system because I'm trying to download Tor browser as well and I'm having the same problem where it stays a gear icon that I have to dig for through files and I can't pin to my taskbar. I can't for the life of me remember what I did to get it to pin the app before
Idk if there's an easy way to make a .desktop file
(besides the trusty text editor)
it might be your tar's fault
