For the love of everything that is holy - please let us select the formations that we want our companions in when I order them to specific positions. The fact that I can't even get their lines to face a direction I want consistently is enough for me to consider alcoholism as a side hobby.

I'm only just now approaching the "mid" game (I assume it's mid game, gathering Iron and whatnot) - And I can only assume that the battles will have larger sizes of combatants. Unit positioning and tactics can easily make a battle where you're outnumbered by 20 to 30% winnable - so I really hope so
Unless they just want you to brute Force your way through it with overwhelming numbers and superiority
