Correction: Not river. Rocks.
Looks like a third villager is about to do the same exact thing. Their pathing is trying to get them to cross the river, but not via the bridge.

Zipping the folder
- Right click on the folder named 'Saved'
- Select 'Send To' -> 'Compressed (zipped) folder'
This will generate a zip file you can then upload
Uploading the zip file
- Drag and drop your zip file into Discord
OR - Use Discord's 'Upload a File' to upload the zip file

They did eventually go back home, but only after being attacked by bandits. After that, they continued to do the same thing. The issue is that I need them to go across the river in order to do construction of a new outpost.

I'm having this problem as well. I've actually slept through the night and the village was still in the river when I woke up. I discoverd that if I physically walk toward where the villager is stuck, they seem to begin pathing right before I get close enough to see them.
