Miners get stuck with task to mine iron, but do not pickup available Sturdy Pickaxe. They hang around the Mining Hut doing nothing. If I manually put Sturdy Pickaxe into their inventory, they mine for a while.

Yes. They will use Sturdy Pickaxe once placed into inventory

weird have u set harvesting as a higher priority and the mining hut as higher priority ? also top up on the ore? are your storages empty? (make sure to check the mining hut storage too, if the top up is set to less than whats in the stockpile storage or mining hut storage they should just mine)

The workers show the mining hut as their task, Iron mining is the top off priority that is less than desired amount, and there is space in their inventory, mining hut, and warehouse storage. They walk over to the mining hut and pickup a simple pickaxe rather than sturdy pickaxe, and get stuck.

this isnt exactly a desired solution but stop using simple pickaxes and it should solve it
