#pro guitar on YARG 0.11

Currently I am trying to chart and play real guitars on 0.11 on a win 11 system.

  1. If I bind my guitar midi input in the players menu as a pro guitar it does not get saved. I need to redo this every time I run YARG.

  2. Somehow the midi guitar notes recognition does not work (I use jam origin's midi guitar 2 and loop midi, which produces clean midi output).

  3. In addition the eof pro guitar chart does not sync to game play.

Any help would be appreciated. 🙂

I'm a bit curious how good the guitar transcription feature is for MIDI Guitar 2 (ie. if you can feed it a guitar stem, will it create accurate tab)? Would it transcribe a guitar stem that has distortion, overdrive or other effects.

Thanks for the idea. I have not thought about using it to transcribe a guitar part, yet. I will give it a try.

the way pro guitar works is not by note, but by knowing with fret is held / string is played (info sent by the harmonix pro guitar controllers) - so if your setup sends midi notes, it's not the input the game expects

#

it's weird to recommend a different game but for real guitar on PC, i'd recommend Rocksmith as opposed to pro guitar on 0.11

I''d like to run it on YARG. I know Rocksmith, but I would like to use to teach drums and guitar with video playback for lessons and practice sessions.

#

What kind of input does YARG need. Where can I read the specs?

ahh i see.. hmmm

#

this is probably a way more technical explanation than what you're looking for

#

but it's the one readily available

yep, but thanks anyway

If your computer has a 3.5mm speaker and microphone jacks, you could just get a mini stereo cable to plug the speaker into the microphone if that was the only option.

#

I don't know what style of MIDI communication YARG would eventually require, but a long time ago I did a little testing of what the Rock Band 3 pro instruments sent out the MIDI port:
https://www.fretsonfire.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=563569#p562610
That game used a MIDI pro adapter to accept the console-agnostic MIDI signaling and convert it into the console specific game controller input (ie. so you could use the Xbox Mustang pro guitar on PS3).

I changed the setup. Guitar --> Midi Guitar 2 --> loopMidi --> Midi2vjoy --> vjoy which tries to simulate the button presses of the mustang controller.

#

Does anyone know where to download a legal properly charted pro guitar chart?

EOF can output proper RB3 pro guitar charts, I made several custom upgrades for official RB3 songs/DLC. If you wanted to give it a try, the latest build is here:
https://ignition4.customsforge.com/eof
There's a built-in pro guitar tutorial in the help menu that goes into a lot of detail about making pro guitar charts. I believe Rhythmverse has many custom pro guitar charts you could examine, otherwise I could drag out some of my old ones.

EOF: Simple Song Editing & Charting for Multiple Rhythm Games!

Thanks for this link. I managed to create a virtual controller which sends the accurate bits. I checked it on a joystick monitor and it looks fine. YARG sees my xbox controller in the 0.11 settings menu, but it does not react ingame. Unfortunately I do not have a real pro guitar controller.
Anyone here who can tell me what kind of input YARG 0.11 expects from a pro guitar controller. Do I need to send the mad catz midi pro VIP and PIP?

presumably so, yeah

the game sets bindings automatically based on the device, and for pro guitar i think that's the only option (everything else can be bound manually)
