#New Engine bugs

Just a few things I noticed whilst playing on the new engine build:

• Notes have a slight Extended note line after them
• Extended notes don't hold properly, I noticed this mostly with Orange
• Open Extended notes are still not coded to have whammy effects or animations and stay as one big held whammy (Wondering if this one is intentional or will be updated later on)
• Overdrive animation does not disappear after first activation (Unsure if Overdrive stays active when in this state, but the multiplier stays at 8x)
• After the above bug, Overdrive Collection Phrases will not add itself to the bar, seemingly as if the overdrive bar keeps draining past the low endpoint where it should deactivate.

  1. I'm assuming this is a sustain threshold bug, what song and source was this?
  2. That's odd... haven't noticed it myself. Possibly some of your frets are flickering?
  3. We'll most likely add an amimation for them, but only when whammying.
  4. By overdrive animation do you mean the track glows? Or is it just the multiplier? I have noticed some issues with the multiplier myself so it's probably connected to that.
  5. Hmm this is weird. Can you also provide a song and source for this?

Hello! Thanks for replying so quickly. I'll try to answer all the questions as accurately as I can.

  1. I can't give you a straight answer here as it was happening in every song.

  2. I haven't experienced this in any other build of YARG, clone hero, or otherwise.

  3. Cool! Can't wait to see it!

  4. It's both, at least for me when I tested the build.

  5. Again I'm unable to provide specific song or source as it happened in all of them when I tested the build. Apologies

@tall hornet Hey. I went back to play the new engine, and I am unable to replicate the issues found above. I think they might have been specific cases that don't happen very often. Something with the song I played that might have broken some code, maybe. I can't remember which song it might have been though.

However, I did notice a few other things:

• Whammy does not widen the line as it usually does on other YARG builds. Further testing needed to see if it's also not adding to the Overdrive bar when used during an Overdrive collection phrase
• Overdrive effects are instant instead of animated, and no fireworks are present when activated (I rather liked those)
• Overdrive seems to activate immediately after having gotten enough built up on the bar. Whether this is my gyro being too sensitive (Which was a slight issue in previous YARG builds) or it's the game requires further testing.

i can attest whammying works, the line-widening animation just isnt implemented yet

OH HEY!! Hoorah for replays, I just found the songs I played the last time: Away by Plini and Unwelcome School by Mitsukiyo

I can confirm these songs work as intended on other builds and other games like Clone Hero. I shall replay these songs as a second test

• Immediately after completing a song, I am returned straight to the main menu instead of being given a final score screen

As far as I'm aware, I haven't found any other issues yet. I've yet to try out the practise mode, but I'm sure people have thrown everything at that one already.

I tested the songs I had played before and none of the issues I first listed have resurfaced on either of them. Weird

Though that was played on the first new engine build before it was updated the next day

• If pausing whilst holding an extended note, then unpause whilst not holding a fret the note will continue to hold as long as no other inputs are detected

• Song length glow around the score meter is not present

It desn't show the full name, instead abbrieviating letters

• Section skipping does not work. (Holding blue and hitting any strum direction just acts like you're not holding that at all)

• Settings is not an option in the pause menu. Wondering if this is intentional

• Lyrics are not displaying at all, no matter which song I pick that has them written.

Oh, I just found a game breaking one:

I unpaused using the green fret to confirm "Unpause" and I strummed straight after to try to hit a note that was right there. Missed, and now I can't strum anything.

strumbar works as intended through menus, and I shall test on a new song

#

To summarise and compact this note:
• Strumming a note immediately after unpausing using the guitar will cause a game-breaking glitch that disables strumming notes, for some reason.

  • hopos are very finicky, in the lasso solo i usually strum out the hopo notes

I did notice Hopos were a bit unreliable to hit sometimes, but Tap Notes were fine

This code was marking sustains which end on the exact same tick as another note starts as extended sustains (which is wrong)

#

Therefore if you're still holding the buttons to hit another note, it masks them away so the engine believes you're not holding them

#

It was why the bot missed on sustains sometimes

#

We do need to implement sustain cutoffs but that will come when sustains actually have scoring

#

As we will just have the burst mechanic like GH/CH does
