I mean. statistically speaking - good looks have always been valued in ancient scriptures of the civilisation but connecting them with religion is one thing. Religion at its core does not pay such respect to looks and all but then again, the gods are described as charismatic and good looking individuals whenever the mortal eye sees them. Physical disciplines as @lunar tree said and aesthetics are correctly payed attention to. However the modern beauty standards rigidity and one fits all was not the standard.
True, the modern "one size fits all" look is a pretty recent obsession. Ancient texts focused more on lakshana—specific signs of health and vitality—rather than everyone looking like the same filter.
True, plus you mentioned Sushruta, the rhinoplasty he devised was for victims who had their noses cut off as a disrespect in wars - it was not devised as a way to help with material beauty but as a way to make survivors look presentable.
true, it was about restoring dignity. but whether it's for war victims or aesthetics, the underlying mastery of anatomy is what makes it based.
Interesting, yes, that is a great point.
exactly. plus when you’re that precise with anatomy, the line between medical necessity and aesthetics basically disappears anyway. it's just peak skill.
True, plus he would have restored the nose according to the standards not exactly to the way it looked back then.
for sure, it was about functionality and making it look natural to the face. dude was basically the father of reconstruction because he understood proportions better than most people do today.
Aura ig - yet too less do we see him getting credit.
facts are facts, the west just did a better job at branding the history they "discovered" later on. sushruta is the goat, credit or not.
Frfrfr - loved this discussion, bye!
later, take it easy.
no what? be more specific or don't bother.
bro I mog you
