#Constructive Feedback from a Power User (Spain Pro Subscriber)

Gemini is a great model, but the team in charge of the App (both mobile and web) seems a bit lost. Competitors like ChatGPT, even with more modest models, allow for better productivity than Google currently does (and that’s without even counting third-party app integrations).

Disclaimer: I am a user from Spain, so I may mention missing features that are already available in the US.

I feel entitled to share my opinion with this tone because I use Gemini FOR EVERYTHING. I am a Pro user, but issues like the ones below prevent me from upgrading to Ultra; I don't think it's worth it right now.

- Search functionality: We desperately need the ability to search across chats or within the current chat for something specific we mentioned earlier.

- Degradation in long conversations: Gemini needs to improve significantly in long threads. It starts to get confused, loses the plot, and "spirals." You have to constantly chase after it to correct it, and its only response is a loop of "Sorry! Sorry!".

- A better Gemini Live: Currently, it’s nothing special; it’s VERY SUPERFICIAL. It’s like talking to a friend who says "Oh, cool" but doesn't actually care, doesn't reason, and does nothing actionable. Furthermore, the Google Search integration (if it’s actually working and not just hallucinating) feels poor. Tools like Google Calendar or Maps within Gemini Live also perform terribly. While Gemini Live is fluid, it struggles with interruptions. The competition's "Advanced Voice Mode" handles "Full Duplex" interactions (speaking and listening simultaneously) and emotional intonation significantly better.

  • Code Execution Environment & Reliance on Code: It is unclear if Gemini uses backend code for math operations, and that lack of transparency hurts our trust in the results. More importantly, unlike ChatGPT (which has a persistent Python sandbox to execute code, generate files, and render real charts), Gemini often just simulates execution or writes code for me to run locally. It effectively lacks a real, robust, integrated "Code Interpreter."

  • Bidirectional File Management: Uploading files generally works, but asking Gemini to edit an Excel sheet and provide a download link, or to generate a file from scratch, is a gamble. It often hallucinates or claims it can't create downloadable files (depending on the day or version), while competitors handle this seamlessly.

  • Tool "Lock-in": It is incredible that at this stage of development, if I trigger a tool (like Deep Research or Canva), I can't toggle it off easily. If I am talking about one topic and want to send Gemini to research, or if I want to stop researching to create a slide, I often have to start a completely new conversation. Why do I have to explain context all over again? It is SUPER inefficient.

  • The Mobile App is unrewarding: Aside from the fact that many web features are missing or take ages to arrive, the UI doesn't follow a consistent design language—it feels internally fragmented. Also, things like Gems redirecting you to the mobile web browser just to create or edit them? LOL, come on, Google. Plus, the aesthetics and small details, like the haptic feedback on mobile vibrating with the tokens generated by the competitor AI, make it addictive. But maybe those aesthetic details are too much to ask for, right?

- Where is the User Profile/Memory?: Why don't we have a proper profile in Gemini yet? In ChatGPT, we can have a profile with our data, instructions on how I want the AI to address me, and other personalizations. In Gemini, we rely on Google Account info, but we need "Automatic Memory" implementation like the competition has had for a long time. At least here in Spain, I still have to manually tell it my name. It's embarrassing.

Who knows if you'll ever actually pick up the pace... Group chats with friends and Gemini? Native apps for Windows and Mac?... You seem to lack the vision to focus on streamlining daily tasks for regular people. Gemini IS INCREDIBLE for power users, but what I observe in my circle is that they prefer ChatGPT simply because it is easier and spoon-feeds them the results.

That's exactly the feature I'm complaining about. It's way too generic. It's basically just dumping data into a raw text field. Since it already has my Google Account linked, does it really need to act like it doesn't know my name? Why doesn't it have a proper structure like this? Look at the difference in UI and formatting (see image); it's just so much more intuitive than simply adding data to a list.
