#Procedural Plane Heat Shield

that would be extremely complex to implement, not even KSP1 with its 15-year history of mods has ever had anything like that ever made
you'd essentially have to create something equivalent to a whole custom texture painting editor, and completely rewrite the entire aerodynamics and heating systems from scratch
Yeah ok
it would at least be nice to have radial-attached shields that conform to each fuselage size (and maybe a few circular ones), there's some like this in KSP1's Sterling Systems
for wings, you could potentially make a procedural wing that comes with a built-in ablative heatshield
I don't think that a radially attached heat shield would even do anything at all
I guess it would depend on the exact drag cubes
but also, that would still mean like at least 20-30 parts to properly make sense
yeah that's entirely fair
since you'd need to not only make a part for mk2, mk3, and each circular size
but also ones for cockpits and adapters
yep
interesting mod idea, but definitely not something we have the capacity for
(and generally a bit out of scope)
I have an idea: is it possible to directly 'spray' a heat shield onto the underside of a spacecraft? It seems doable in the game? You would only need to modify the textures and properties. Then calculate the added mass based on the spacecraft's projected area.
