Are you suggesting a robotic arm and a telescope in the same mod? This sounds like two mods. Have you looked at @ember forge's excellent mod KESA? It includes a telescope as well as some nice solar panels. I'm not sure if he's got plans to make the telescope "functional" in terms of something like topographical mapping.

Personally, I think your ideas here - which are great - would make more sense broken into two mods as they've got two different use cases. The Advanced Celestial Scanner mod sounds like it might work really well once 0.2.x (science) arrives. Prior to that, it's most likely mainly a parts mod waiting for science mode to arrive.

Since science mode will include a "tech tree" (this has been confirmed by the devs and is not surprising), then it might make sense to have a number of various parts that become available as the tech tree is explored - but frankly I expect the stock game to do this, so we don't know yet what gaps there may be.

Like the KESA mod, it may make sense to design parts around real sensors that have really flown on real missions. That gives modders a lot of useful info like pictures and stats (size, weight, power) for the real thing as well as cool realistic purposes. Then they can make such parts to add to the game and players can incorporate those instruments in their craft.

Once Science mode (0.2.x) arrives, then the modders can go back to their science parts and add features so that when the part is used in a given location it has the effect of rewarding the player with some science. This could start out simplistically, but might one day be far more detailed list KSP1's ScanSAT mod.

Why even make suggestions if they're not your own? I mean don't take it the wrong way, it's not like it's forbidden, but I don't really see the sense in just suggesting things for the sake of it - I feel like these should be more about what you personally feel like is missing, and would like to see added to the game
