I don't really need consoling or advice for this but I would like to complain about how far behind I feel we are.
I've read so many messages about people asking how to come out and an overwhelming majority of the time the only advice I can give is to not come out until their circumstances change.
I've lived in mostly conservative areas for most of my life and I have listened to people talk about how discrimination is a thing of the past or how they don't understand why people in marginalized groups continue to be so loud when "they got what they wanted"
It's frustrating that in 2025 so many people live in fear because of the ignorance of others and how so many people are either completely unaware of it or just don't see it as a problem.

i completely agree
Thats so true. As a genderfluid person who is visibly afab, I feel like I’m the one who has to constantly call the bullshit I see, and I do call it out, but it’s exhausting. I go to a small, Christian church (I do it for my mom, I am not an avid believer in religion), and was send to another area with some other teens my age. The youngest being ~11 was being extremely rude to the lady who was trying to teach us some growth plan about following god (i haven’t told anyone I don’t believe in religion, since I don’t think it matters much), and the only guys in the group were being crazy childish and rude. Putting their feet on a rather expensive table in a building that ISNT theirs, talking over the PASTOR who took time out of her day to personally talk to us, leaving garbage around, etc. i got so pissed off that once the pastor stopped talking I just looked at them and asked; “Why on earth have you two been so rude to the pastor? She’s tried telling you nicely and politely to stop speaking and yet it doesn’t seem like you care or understand. You’re acting like kids, which you are, but that isn’t an excuse for your behavior.”
They surprisingly listened to me (after literally laughing at me once I finished talking), but my point is I’ve had to be the ‘cringy’ bad guy so many times because of how rude teens my age are. Especially guys. The amount of times I would tell folks that “hey! Gay isn’t really an insult, so your joke doesn’t make any sense, plus it’s rude”, or “hey, that’s.. crazy racist. Can we not say slurs so casually like that?” , “You cannot be that confident after you just body shamed a girl who hasn’t even arrived yet.” No, harassment and bullying against marginalized communities has not stopped. It never did. Bigots just learned how to beat around the bush when it came to bullying.
I apologize for the rant, i know it’s a lot considering this is a response. But i get what you mean. My dad wants to teach me self defense since I am literally a prime target for bigots 😭 (afab, homo, poc 😻)
Rights are never safe from being taken away. They don't understand why we "still" ask for our rights to be secured because they never had to fight for basic respect, and they are ignorant of where we are as a society. Given that we can clearly position ourselves on the 1930-40s roadmap in 2025, we aren't gonna stop fighting.
Unfortunately getting to a safer world takes time. It takes education, it takes undoing centuries of stigma. But I'm confident that our efforts will pay.
Exactly
I bring it up whenever I hear someone say that "people make it their whole personality"
Because to them sexuality has never been something they had to think about or have to hide.
