I tried to investigating this issue because multiple people have it. I was unable to replicate it. But I did simulate it. There was no related logs on my side. My only guess was chest token is missing on steam side. So somehow the generator on client side is not working properly? I also thought it could be a race condition. But I was unable to simulate a race condition. I have a limited environment to work on though. I would appreciate knowing the cause if you find it.

Also related, I currently have multiple simultaneous chess tokens. Which could explain why I can't replicate the issue. I'm also wondering if that's a bug or something I caused with testing.

we figured out that the exchange worked and the item was in debug logs, Steam inventory, and client inventory (a duplicate cat) but for some reason the popup seemingly never showed.

you could alter the registery entry for the y value. its not user friendly in the slightest though.
in short you'd hae to move the cat down to where you want its y position, save the registery entry for "y" in notepad, then press F1 to reset position, then write that entry back into "y" position. problem is that its binary format and the text input field is not user friendly either

you can access the persistent stoage in Registry:
WIN key + Registry Editor
Path: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Irox Games\BongoCat

It appears to be safe to delete all settings (I tested). However I recommend just renaming the folder just to be safe, and if the new run works fine, you can delete the old folder. Make sure BongoCat is closed before making changes.

Warning: Be careful, registry files can be important so only delete the ones in BongoCat.

PlayerPrefs.Save() is non-atomic, so it can partially complete due to app force close/crashes
also not thread-safe.

I doubt the logs would even have shown the initial cause to any corruption, but a solution would be to have error handling with reading the preferences.

Yes, transparency seems to be working fine. I can alt-tab into other windows, just fine as long as “always on top” is disabled.

Toggling F3 while “always on top” is enabled still doesn’t pop up any of my other windows open. It’s like the whole bongo cat window is permanently stuck when “always on top” is enabled instead of just allowing the bongo cat on top.

did some investigation and i think i know the issue.
I assume you have "Color Key Fix" disabled (maybe its a bug or you accidently pressed F3)

you can verify in the logs if its on or off:

if its off, the "click through" is handled differently, and i can see how it might fail

however im new to this app so i may misunderstand some of it

Guys, why do I lose some of the smoothness when I have Bongo Cat running, whether it's on the desktop or in a game? Also, in games, I lose 10-15 fps with Bongo Cat running

it may be because it is wanting to constantly check if your pressing a button on your keyboard, and it will be doing that alongside other games, which will generally slow down your computer

this has been some weird network issue. its reported to be primarily steam side, but i find it very questionable. all i can say is it appears to come back after awhile. please send your log files here

what i stress about is, in my theory, if the points reset and the client manages to send the "increment" to the server again, it may override your previous points. but i dont have enough research to figure out how it works

Looks like making longer log history may help capture this as I have restarted multiple times, so the log for this is probably overwritten.

I found out that the issue is, that the game is showing in my task manager as a background processor and not as an app. My friends who are about to capture it have the game in the app section. Not sure why mine is in the background, I can't figure out how to get it to show as an app

I located the exe using task manager and opened its properties. For some reason 'disable fullscreen optimizations' was checked, so I unchecked it. Forced stopped it on Steam and relaunched, and the cat returned on my second monitor.

first time hearing about this setting. and also finally learned why "exclusive fullscreen" no longer seem to be truly exclusive anymore (specifically because of "fullscreen optimization"), this seems to be a newish feature around windows 10+. im used to exclusive fullscreen modes behaving different in the past.

however, it seems that Bongo Cat is "Windowed fullscreen" not "exclusive fullscreen" so in theory this compatibility should not make a difference. but the game also explicitely sets "Disable Fullscreen Optimizations" to true, so i guess the setting does effect the rendering of the game even in windowed mode.

also weird that this seems to effect how the cat is positioned in your game. as a developer myself, a lot of these bugs are just odd to me.

Yes it seems to be the new flip model presentation in Windows 11 that basically makes full screen the same as borderless.

From reading around, it seems the best is always to set games to borderless windowed as it ensures the best compatibility with swapchain ordering for rendering layers of game + OS multiplane overlay and mods/recording software.

I personally run bongo cat while running DX 12 games, with HDR and with NVIDIA App recording/instant replay enabled, so I think it would make sense to keep bongo cat at borderless fullscreen.

But yes I'm also confused as to why sometimes when I turn my main monitor off & on (or even switching off HDR) the cat position shifts.

both log files are identical. they also show no error and no crash log. there could be a chance that there is a crashlog elsewhere, but also appears that it shutdown gracefully in the logs. there are no timestamps so i can only assume you manually closed the app. in your video and screenshot it shows the app running.

so its not a crash that i assumed, if you focus BongoCat window and press F1, does it reposition to center of screen? i will look at #1337544835292467250 to see how others solved this issue, i forget.

It is just a screen buddy. You can have your friends buddy on your screen as well if you make a lobby. But yes it counts your clicks and you can use them for chests to get cosmetics or emotes. 🙂

i believe there is a visual bug where you dont see the popup sometimes but you still get the items. you can confirm by viewing the inventory history in steam. if you are still concerned you can send your log files but it would need to be your last session.

Hi all, I am not sure if this is a bug or something else, but the chest stuff is giving me issues. It wont let me click on them anymore.

At first it was fine, then eventually I was only able to click on one at a time while the second chest would be frozen, and now both cannot be clicked. It's on and off now bc just rn it let me click one chest but not the other.

I updated and restarted, refreshed the game, uninstalled and reinstalled, but it keeps doing it. My gaming mode isn't on. I'm not hiding the counter or anything else. I just dont get why suddenly it's deciding not to work...

I do beleive it was a chest because once they reached 1k and claimed it the symbol dissapeared! However on their end I got the same little symbol for my cat but that one also dissapeared this time without me collecting anything?

I think the latest update broke my game. I wanted to restart my computer so I quit the game from a multiplayer lobby (I usually leave the lobby first then quit but this time I quit so I could come back to the same lobby) I restarted my computer.

There was a new update for Bongo Cat so I clicked update and now when the game starts, I can only click on the menu ONCE (and it's a bit slow laggy) and after that, I CANNOT click on the menu (it doesn't show up) and if I click my cat it doesn't meow.

I can still see my cat tapping and the numbers going up but I cannot click on the menu (doesn't do anything) and if I click on my cat, it doesn't meow. I never use gaming mode or anything, tried to press F4 or something anyway but nothing. Maybe a problem with the latest update (1-2 hours ago).

Also tried to verify the files but didn't fix the problem.

Restarted pc again, started Bongo Cat again. Again, at first I can click on the menu but then after nothing else responds. Can't meow, emojis don't respond either, can't even drag my cat.

4 Demo items weren't assigned to my account - tasks were done at most 2 days after the event was posted and all games were played for 10+ minutes. Multiple resets of the game were done but still no cosmetics.

Hey, my friend just started playing this game and she got to 1k points (steam acheivment and all) but her 30 minute timer is just totally not moving. Any tips? Anything im missing?

(I know a screenshot isnt really proof of an unmoving timer.. but it is stuck at 30. And then her steam acheivments is the other picture)

and if you chnage the import settings, that is where it is stored

One of my chests stopped dropping items, the timer just keeps counting back from 1 min and resets.
There's nothing to see in the logs, just a whole lot of PromoItemChecker | 1 k_EResultOK

The left one works normally, the right one just keeps counting down from one minute and restarting the countdown

Every half hour the left chest gives me an item, the logs say:

For the right chest every minute it ads a PromoItemChecker | 1 k_EResultOK to the logs
