So I'm not new to MMOs and usually there's a linear story that a new player follows, and that's usually the first ever main story quest.

I am new with wow however and it seems like with WoW it's NOT like that? So I just run around doing random quests that sometimes will tie with a story?

If a new player wanted to play through burning crusade expansion for example, what can they do?

WoW does NOT have a main story, although Shadowlands and Dragonflight have a campaign that is a main story.

You go do quests, and some of them are chains that tell a short story.

For a very new player, you wait until your first character is higher level then go do Burning Crusade for fun. (You could do it on-level, but the level range is pretty tight). After you get your first 60, you could start a new character and play levels 10-60 entirely through Burning Crusade.

When you say start a new character do you mean the game recognizes that I have a fully leveled account and let's me do burning crusade? On a new account?

All the quests are part of the story, but it's not clearly marked like FFXIV's story.

When you start a character on an account with a level 60, there is an NPC that you can talk to that'll send you to an appropriately scaled version of an expansion, so you can spend 10-60 in a single expansion area.

The content is still there with or without Chromie Time, all Chromie Time does is scale it for the purpose of leveling. The best way to do stuff is to get caught up with the current content, and then you're free to go back and do old stuff for rewards and questlines and whatnot without being left behind

That way players only need to play current content to be viable in current content, making it a lot easier for newer players to get into endgame

New players are meant for BFA so they don't have to go through 18 years of content to catch up. Alts can do any expansion.

If you are looking for live tracking I don't think that exists but you can use the armory to see dungeons/raids and accomplishments and titles I believe

So, yeah, often you can't use it... you can AH it or sell it for a few gold to fund those repairs.

IF you were in threads before prepatch P2, it literally takes like 5 quests/WQs to level you each level. which because of how ToF was you can sometimes double up on quests since they were so stacked on top of each other BUT if you weren't in threads before P2 you can no longer do this.

You don't need an addon until you know you need it, so if you don't know then you'll be fine

Hello all. I just started playing for the first time since Legion - I had a really short stint when the levels changed and so now I have 49 level Outlaw Rogue. I decided not to finish the very ending of Legion (mostly raid quests anyway) and wanted to start the Battle for Azeroth content to level slowly. I loaded the The Battle for Lordaeron scenario and I was a bit surprised with the difficulty level. I know there is scaling but is it normal the a one mob fight needs real attention and proper rotation? Or is it the case that my ilvl (around 50) is really low and that's why they have more life and hit hard?

best way to get back to the capital city is to have your hearthstone set there or use one of the teleportation cloaks (which you probably havent bought yet). if your hearthstone is not set to orgrimmar you might have to take a flight back to zuldazar and take the portal back to OG there

what i said means that the open world seems to get scaled maybe because of chromie time or whatever. you can check this by just looking at the mobs levels. raids dont get affected by that so they should be far lower level than you and easily killed

There's pretty much just the War Campaign. WoW doesn't have main story quests for the most part, just a bunch of separate quest chains.

The War Campaign stuff will pop as you hit the appropriate levels.

You can only queue for Legion dungeons if you're in Legion Chromie Time. Since you're probably on your first character, you can't do Chromie Time.

It'll let you do Legion as a DH, but you're intended to do BFA for new people.

Curseforge has a standalone UI client to do it (easiest) but i prefer wowup's beta which finally re-integrates with Curseforge. Both work fine, but wowup is a bit more lightweight / less convoluted in my personal opinion. Also WOWUP integrates with TAKUI which means you can install / maintain ELVUI (if you choose to use it) because that ones not on CF.

You can do it manually, too, but its a pain... just use a client which will install them, and notify you of updates (constantly due to the new expansion) so you can click the update from there.

If you update or install one while in game just type /reload into the console and it'll reload your UI and hot add the new updates.

As for what addons to use that's going to be up to you, but sort it by downloads on the 'get addons' page on either, and you'll see the super popular ones to see if any interest you.

Also don't go nuts right out of the gate, find 1 or 2 you want... add them, load the game, set them up and whatever, and then add more. Too many at once will be overwhelming.

I very much disliked SL for a while... Got a few chars to 60 then left wow for a while. When I came back several months ago I got into SL more, especially the covenants, and enjoy it more now (especially after unlocking flying).

Still not as good as WOD though.

WOD as Horde is much cooler IMO as it ties into the book really well (Rise of the Horde I think). You don't get the same thing from the Alliance side

So, I was at the AH in Valdrakken or however you spell it and went to buy some Dense Hide. When I clicked yes to confirm the buy nothing happened, then none of the menus showed when I clicked on the auctioneer NPC's, in the dungeon finder menu it was letting me click to queue heroics even though I'm not a high enough ilvl for it instead of it being grayed out, but it also wasn't actually letting me queue. Then I went to exit the game and when I clicked exit game nothing happened at all so I alt+f4'd it. When I go to log back into my character it tells me that "A character with that name already exists." I've had this character for over 2 years and it's never given me that message until everything went all fucky a few minutes ago but now I just can't get back in. I think my game might be cursed. Anyone ever have this happen to them?

I've had that happen, seems when you improperly exit the 'i'm leaving' part doesn't hit and your character has to basically AFK himself out in a bit

Basically your character is in game already essentially as far as the servers are concerned, once it times itself out (like when you'd AFK and time out to the login screen due to inactivity) you'll be fine to get them back

Hit ESC - Edit Mode - that'll have everything you can move around in the standard UI without addons.

By default some things may not show up in your view right away so you can checkbox all the various fields to get them to show initially.

LFR is the lowest difficulty for modern raids, and drops the lowest level loot. For the most part (there are some exceptions), it's the same items.

but mechanics change on bosses from piece to peice (LFR/Normal/Heroic/Mythic) so you can't expect it to be the same, just harder hitting, when you move between difficulties. The way the boss works changes.
