Let's say you tamed Echeyakee (a common choice back then), he had the skills (I making it up, I don't actually remember) Bite rank 1, Shred rank 2, and Dash rank 1
The you needed to tame a pet which could naturally cast Bite rank 2, make it use it till you learned it, and teach the skill to Echeyakee
After that, you'll need a pet with Dash rank 2, so you'll have to abandon the pet youy just got to learn Bite rank 2 and get another one

But when it reaches the appropriate level to learn a new skill you need to go pet hunting till you learn those skills to teach to your pet (in my example, Echeyakee, the white lion from Barrens)

Step 1. Reach level 10 to learn to tame pets
Step 2. Choose your pet (cats are the ones who hit harder)
Step 3. Tame it
Step 4. Level it until it can learn new skills (let's say lvl 20)
Step 5. Puit him in the stables (only two slots)
Step 6. Look in Petopia (back in the day, and I think they will release a Vanilla version now) for another cat, level 20 or so, who has the skills your pet needs
Step 7. Go tame that pet (let's call it "training pet")
Step 8. Make it use the skill till you learn it
Step 9. Go back to your stables.
Step 10. Store your new pet, and get your main one out
Step 11. Use the skill "Teach pet" to teach it that skill you learnt from the training pet
Step 12. Repeat until you are 60 and have your pet skills maxxed out
Note: Since you have only 2 stables slots, you'll need to abandon those "training pets"

Every cat is useful, most other families are basically "training pets"
Every pet family as a determined set of skills.
Every beast of that family has those skills on a rank appropriate to their level.
Many skill are shared among more than one family (so, for example, you could learn "Bite rank 2" from a wolf, and teach it to a cat)
Don't actually remember about base stats, it's been way too many years since I played Vanilla, but a party of me believes they were not determined individually by pet, but by pet family

I guess if I can only have one main pet I have to put a lot of thought into what it's going to be. Cats being the best, meh, never liked cat pets, they always go into stealth and move too slow to keep up with me. But I guess it's a small sacrifice to pay :-(

You can turn stealth off, and pets will always keep up with your speed, no matter what. Even if you are mounted they will keep up

Once upon a time, when Old School Runescape came out, they had a milestone to determine how one pays for membership for that game. There were enough "yes" votes to just make it so one subscription pays for both versions of the game's membership.
In the long run, I think this actually makes more money, especially in a game like Runescape which has strongly embraced their equivalent of the token system.
WoW could benefit in a similar fashion, especially when considering problems like player retention that would normally lead to months of unsubscription. It would also encourage those legacy lovers who have huge misconceptions about the modern iteration of WoW to actually try it out.

I wont pay extra for a spare time activity. And I think that is the case for many players, not just myself.
And having newest expansion available for those that comes back to play classic is a great idea for both sides, some players will try the new content, so new/more players. Asmongold made a great video about this. I have pretty much the same opinion as him on this matter.

Rogues have a weekly pickpocketing daily for 5k gold a week. I do on 5 rogues, that's 25k a week. I am doing this and keeping the gold on my rogues till the next expansion. If it's a year away I will have over 1m gold for the next expansion.

I played runescape for like a month straight and i hated every minute of it, it was sort of a weird time in my life. I just ground out armor and weapons and as soon as i got to the skill level where the next tier of metal, i think like, darkish teal or maybe more of a cobalt blue, required the paid version to smelt i stopped

apparently its an event that a lot of streamers and youtubers are doing where you have to level up a character to 60 and then get them through the level 60 raids
however, a lot of the streamers decided to level their toons on RP realms so that they could be douches to the roleplayers there (at least that's what I've heard)

they had to go on RP servers, cause the fewest players are there and therefore no one could troll them. PVP servers would 1 shot them with 110 level characters on the other faction. PVE servers they would tag mobs and kill them, making it painful to level up. they had to unfortunately, cause players are dicks

They still need to figure out what features they want to bring to Classic and release formats and so many other logistic things that is why 2019 is realistic. It isn't like they can just flip a switch and bang, you have classic.

Like, i know any possible change will be hated, and im also not planning on playing much on a classic server so i have NO place to be suggesting things (hell i didnt play till TBC and didnt raid til wotlk), but i'd hide behind some broken bottle-proof chickenwire and then propose that they put personal loot into Vanilla

the only modern-game thing i want involved in classic is that getting a gear piece on a classic server unlocks the look for your account, like normal

@reef creek That's funny. Since we're getting two new continents, 6 new races (4 of which relate to Legion's storyline), new bag slots on the default inventory, references to the Old Gods instead of minor gods which really have almost nothing to do with the story, and more.

I mean personally I assume they’ll include at least a couple instead of just reusing unaltered vanilla code. Because most people who play Classic servers if they do the latter will be reminded just how much they hated that stuff before it got changed, and the Classic servers will end up deserted except for a handful of really hardcore gluttons for punishment
And that’s always been one of the big arguments against vanilla-only servers, they expected it wouldn’t be a large enough segment of the playerbase to justify the cost of maintaining separate servers
Not sure, I’m no programmer, but the Q&As I’ve seen make it sound like they’re piggybacking the Classic servers on other infrastructure instead of dedicating hardware. But I could be wrong/misinterpreting
In which case it’s not as big a deal to maintain separate versions of the game. But still, if the population on Classic realms never reaches (or dips and stays below) some “critical mass” number, I assume they’d trim fat there before most other places

I mean that’s a big part of what many players miss
But on the other hand, all the constant tweaking and retuning, someone always bitching about one spec or another
I’m sure there were multiple reasons for all the ability pruning in MoP and beyond, with one of them undoubtedly “it’s too much damn work to balance 100 talents for every class”

@civic steppe what youre talking about is the new expansion, Battle for Azeroth. this channel is about Classic servers, which is a different thing blizzard is working on based on the original game. i can see where someone could get confused. classic servers are entirely based on the idea of goign backwards, where the new expac, BfA, is moving forward.

The biggest issue that Classic runs into is exploration and discovery. Even reset to patch 1.0, players will not be able to mindwipe the multitudes of data learned from wowhead, wowdb, and thottbot. The new xpac was recently announced and datamining has practically broken down how the new models will breathe, eat, and pee

I dont really get your point... vanilla is a limeted experience like any game... normal games have missions or levels. Vanilla had patches, but as a whole its one experience like any other game. And i dont see how you would not like to relive a part of your life as vanilla is a port of wows life. Sure it prob wont be 100% be the same fealing as the first time, but thats true for any game.

The overall exp is the point of vanilla.. to one shot a mage as a warrior or over agro as a mage as freak out cuz the boss is on you
