We did gold rings to make it more obvious that the icons themselves are links, the color matches the color of links around the site. Previously this wasn't apparent to some.

We based it off of http://www.lolking.net/ (a ZAM site redesigned last year) - I don't believe any other wow sites have a 'fixed sidebar' that's just an ad, and when we added that in, it started to make the layout look funny

Yea I think you need to restart. I just downloaded the client on my laptop (since I'm not at home) and verified it's working properly. I also had some other staff in differnet locations check. Delete the +Wowhead_Looter.lua (and +Wowhead_Looter.lua.bak) file in your World of Warcraft/WTF/Account/<Account Name>/SavedVariables folder. Then, go relaunch World of Warcraft. Give it a minute, close it and try the upload again.

@floral dust exactly what @Alfa said: my issue turned out to be a corrupted +Wowhead_Looter.lua file, deleting it cleared up uploads. I sent it over to @teal dragon so maybe a future update can handle ones broken in the same manner.

Some updates that were fixed today:
-Mobile front page now has quick links at the top to skip to the section you like, instead of scrolling through blue trackers/today in wow
-Mobile news pages display less blue tracker posts at the top
-Most, but not all, of the artifact guide links are fixed when you click on them via the center ‘bar’ on guide pages. 12 should be fully fixed tomorrow. The other 3 ways of accessing the pages on wowhead (navigation menu, sidebars on guides, artifact calc) all work for all specs.
-Toys, heirlooms, followers should be loading in tabs for everyone
-EU Today in Broken Isles shows assault timers in 24 hour time, not AM/PM

@keen sinew Try going into your <WoW Folder>/WTF/Account/<name>/SavedVariables/ folder and removing the +Wowhead_Looter.lua (and .bak) files. @true sentinel You're correct, this behavior isn't intended. It's something we've been dealing with for awhile now. Unfortunately it's just an easy thing to fix... we're always battling bad ads (or rather disruptive ones) that lag the site down harming the user experience. We're conducting tests all the time, some aren't effective, some are.. even if it's a minor improvement we've implemented it: recently we removed a particular element that caused browser lag. It hasn't been enough though so we're going to continue testing (A/B) and work towards more substantial improvements. We even contracted an ad screening company to proactively monitor ads, since we don't have the capability to do so ourselves on a large scale. @swift night If/when that happens again click 'Feedback' at the top and select 'Bad Advertisement' letting us know you're getting sound form an unseen ad. That mechanism provides us recently displayed ad data for you so we can try to track it down to have the ad networks remove/disable it. Sorry for the inconvenience. 😦

So since this is based on the dungeon journal data, that loot may not automatically show up as being from ToS if they're trash drops. Once people run the raid and upload client info and get npc locations that drop the item, the filters should update

I've never looked in their code so idk how it works or what the cause is specifically. I got it from Order Resources (allegedly). I think it's about currencies in general though? If I were to take a guess off of two points.

just a note, not sure where best to report bad ad activity...yesterday i went to Wowhead on mobile. Apparently wasn't logged in so I got ads, and one opened up one of those scammy "get a $100 amazon gift card for filling out your info!" things. I closed it and didn't think to screenshot until I went back, at which point the ad that did it had changed.
My husband visited just now on desktop and got one of those "you have a virus download this software to fix it!" popups...something about a Zeus Virus.

That's exactly what I had to do myself. The redirects are the hardest ones to track. 😐 Also, if anyone reading thinks we like these... we don't. Like, it's stupid for a site to actually want you to redirect away from their site to some other site.

@tawny blade I appreciate your answer to my item search question yesterday, but that's one of the searches I used to make a full list. Unfortunately, that's the issue I have. "teleport" is just one of the words used in equippable items. Examples of other items with different wording are the ruby slippers from kara, booty bay fishing boots, and the old AV trinkets. What I was looking for is just a way to review all equippable items with a use effect, without worrying about any non-standard wording Blizzard uses, by using a wildcard in the current text search or something like "has a use effect", where "has a flavor text" already exists in the filter list.

the pets we're in a bit of a bind, if we flag test pets as hidden on the database, blizzard usually reuses the ID/page in the next patch, and then people go 'this pet is slow to show up.' so we've moved towards having some test data appear on the site so it doesn't get lost with endless PTR modifications

we've debated that, but we're concerned it would dilute the message/goals of the site. A lot of people still think that wowhead is just comments, because that's what it was 10 years ago. If someone chose to permanently delete part of the front page from showing up, they may not find something valuable on the front page

The goal is to provide information, and there's a bit of lack of space to bring the information to the guy. I can pretty much see the desire you'd want to provide about everyone with their relevant bit of info they're looking for. It's a difficult thing, working with limited space.

@swift night Even if we get an ad removed by one ad network, that doesn't necessarily mean it won't come through from another ad network or an entirely new ad campaign ran by the ad network at a later time. Unfortunately reports don't remove things in real time, as much as they would be great.. because then people would just report everything and there'd be no ads left to display. It's a frustrating proces, especially when a particular ad doesn't function properly on our site, we're always trying to keep up with them. Yea you can just close it but it takes over the tab you were in for WoWhead so you have to reload the site completely. You can't back out of it because its a series of redirects.
Its wowhead's ad provider that is doing it. But if this is whats going to be hosted on their mobile advertisements they need to remove mobile ads until it gets sorted. This doesn't pop up a new page with an ad, it takes people off the wowhead page completely.

Hey kerupt. Sorry that you're experiencing this behavior. The clear majority of our mobile users aren't encountering this and I'd like to make it a bit clearer that it's not our ad providers directly, it's a single ad campaign. These are created on one, or several, large ad networks by nefarious entities and they've taken extraordinary measures to bypass the safe guards in place by that ad network to get this behavior presented to the end user. We and our users report these ads to the networks and they investigate. However, a lot of the time the campaign has already ended or was changed to look perfectly normal again. These entities then recreate the campaign somewhere else on an entirely new network, rotating it around, making it very hard to catch. We’re not the only website that experiences these issues and we’re always looking for ways to improve or mitigate the frequency of these incidents.

This behavior is absolutely not intended or desired. In fact, we hate them immensely, but there isn't anything we can do to guarantee these events don't occur, absent shutting down the ads entirely and that is an option that simply isn't feasible.

If it was a one off I wouldn't be concerned. But over the last 2-3 weeks (I purchased a new device last Sunday as I was due for an upgrade anyways) on two separate devices I've had this occur about 15%-20% of page loads on WoWhead

kerupt: Yes, we've considered and tested various changes to determine if any particular ad network is more vulnerable than the others but they're all susceptible to the behaviors you encountered. There's one pretty solid way to prevent them entirely but at a, say ~80% revenue drop, which would mean no more Wowhead.
Ads, and ad quality, are always being discussed and we're doing A/B testing on some of our sites to try and see what dials we can adjust to reduce the frequency these things are encountered. We employed an ad screening service to proactively monitor ads and generate reports to our new full time staffer who's entire purpose is reporting these ads to the ad networks for removal. We're doing everything we can to push back against them. I promise. In fact during this conversation I was in a meeting discussing, in part, the ad issues across the network and what progress is being made.

so on live servers that ID is for the dancing bear which is 180 tokens

They actually infact (I discovered) replaced the Broken Hook item that unlocks the appearance for the Underlight Angler with the Waterstone used in the SUn Darter Hatchling thing.
So basically the Broken Hook is gone forever. The "new item" appears to be the Underlight Emerald

We've just updated wowhead with some Wowhead Premium prompts emphasizing the price change. Recent surveys showed that only 50% of users knew it was $1
So the messaging has been updated across the site and there is now an additional premium prompt when you scroll past 5 or 6 articles on the front page. As well as a "Remove all Ads" button underneath each ad that will take you to premium

Hi guys. While getting disappointed by a WQ not popping up, I thought it might be cool to have a feature to "watch" WQ's and get emails/notifications for this when one does pop up.
I tried to login and check if Wowhead had this feature but at the moment I'm running into a 501/502 gateway error.

We're looking to eventually implement a notification feature on the site, however, WQ's aren't currently in that plan... not that it can't be, but it wouldn't be the first the thing we do with it. Appreciate the suggestion though!

Anyway, My notification idea is because I don't look at every WQ on the map and sometimes play along without looking. Or am off the PC. And then it would be cool to know when a particular WQ is up because I'm going for an achievement credit.
I remember there used to be a garrison timer app that Wowhead offered. Perhaps it could be reworked to have the Broken Isles news and WQ things on it as well.

Hi all, I'm fighting against the profiler... It seems like it's not possible for me (event installing the WowHead Client, to have anything at the completion column... After about an hour, a Wowhead tab was using 500mb of memory, after being left for ages, a single wowhead tab is using 3gb of memory

Hi Fennec, we're aware of that issue, it's one of the side effects of advertising on the site. A periodic refresh of the page will usually clear it out. If you plan to stay on a single Wowhead page for an extended period of time I recommend clicking the little gray bar on the top far right edge of the site. It will collapse the ads until you navigate away or refresh (this usually is best on guide or database pages you plan to stay on for extended periods). We're sorry for the inconvenience this causes but we're always looking to make improvements and mitigate the browser impact the ads have on our users.
The suggestions I gave should help in the meantime though.

Question. When my monk's artifact weapons had all their main traits maxed the new traits became available after I did the Khadgar's questt on the boken shores. I had no troubles with any of the weapons opening the addition trait slots. Now my demon hunter has both weapons original traits maxed but it hasn't opened the additional slots on my second weapon. Is. This Bugged?

Before I asked my question I had tried all the things you have suggested. When I tried equiping my second weapon and talking to Khadgar on the Broken shores He did not give me the quest again. When I did my monk I only had to do the quest once. My orginial weapon on my monk was my dps artifact weapons which I have maxed out. I did not have to do the quest again for either of my other 2 weapons so why would I have to do it that way on the demon hunter?

I have a slightly different but related query, i unlocked the empowered traits for my hunters bm gun but when i swapped to my mm bow i dont have the empowered traits option. Is that cause my bow isnt at 35 traits yet or do i need to do the quest again to open it for mm too?

Look quys I already have my monks extra traits open so I know that. I had both of my dh's weapons maxed out on the orginal traits before I did the quest to open the new traits.
After listening to all of this I have submitted a bug report because I have concluded from your comments that is the only things it can be.
I had my Havoc wepons on when I did the quest and it let me upgraded my Vengence weapon but not my Havoc.

@keen sinew Can you clarify what you mean by Premium tooltip? I don't think we restrict tooltips to premium users anywhere. A screenshot preview upon hovering over something with a screenshot is a Premium feature though.

How long does it usually take before a video (submitted for an achievement) gets approved?

Usually 3-5 days. There are about 180 pending right now. We have 2-3 volunteers that handle that as time permits and videos take a bit longer to review than screenshots.
