Based on the revamped Character Creation in Shadowlands, this is my would-be idea for a Character Select screen. The concept shows what it would look like if all 50 character slots were filled on a single realm (for both factions, display purpose only).
Character information would be displayed while hovering over a character slot, and display the same information as it does today (Name, Class, Level, Location).
Obviously this concept is not likely to be used, ever. But it was kinda fun to work on 😛

The "race icon", was intended as a placeholder. The idea (in my head), was that the circles would show a 3D portrait of a particular character, similar to how most Unitframe addons have it, with a smaller circle inside that would show the given Level or Class.
Quick MSPaint job, the idea being the 3D portrait in the blue area, with the Level or Class in the orange area.
With more info by simply hovering over it.

The current screen is woefully outdated, and imho would look rather shite next to the updated Character Creation screen. The above image is my personal idea of what a Character Select screen could look like (guess my artistic ideas are garbage, so I won't be posting any such concepts in the future).
Having to "scroll" through dozens of characters, is one thing that needs to be changed at some point. When they had a limit per server, that might work. But 50 characters on a single server, gets rather tedious to scroll through.
