Hmm, I don't know for the UK, but Italy still have some wolves and Spain lynxes. Both reintroduces themselves a bit in France. (But the farmers complain a lot about the sheeps. It doesn't go well for the wolves and bears. I'm not sure Lynxes were ever completly extinct in France, they are really discreet. There's some in my grandparents mountains)

basically, the US House of Reps is able to be blocked by the super right wing Republicans and the Senate is able to be blocked by Democrats, so getting a funding bill past both is very difficult. Republicans have been getting around the vote requirements by passing short-term funding bills but both sides are getting frustrated by it so the government shut down.
And basically, Democrats want protection for young immigrants who have been in the US for most/all of their lives, and Republicans have been unwilling to do that, and are using children's healthcare (something supported by both parties lol) as a bargaining chip
