Either way, the cooldown solution seems easy on paper but the more I thought about it, the more I realized it might not work too well either.
Cooldown on addons running certain commands, maybe, but not sure how that can specifically be done unless maybe...function split?

well in particular it started happening because of invasions... People would stay in the invasion zone longer - and the invasions last 6 hours.
this lead to realms becoming overpopulated - and because of the sheer number of people on larger realms, it'd attract to them more because they were bound to create groups more often than small pop servers

It also kind of helps that invasions were very, very rewarding to do and also limiteed - more than nearly every other world quest. They even completed Emissaries to boot.
But honestly, I think part of it was also Broken Shore.

Not only is there also a lot of fairly rewarding quests to group up for, but it's also a hopper's paradise.
I've had minor issues in both, and damn does that world lag hit hard.
Either way, I do think there needs to be a better solution in the long run, but as a quick fix, this one is far less worse than people think it is, and it does put a stop to the excessive hops caused by addons like WQGF that then lead to the overpopulation problem, not to mention I doubt the servers like it when some guy is jumping servers every few seconds since that sends a transfer request that has to be processed.

Well, I can't speak for how the servers process the requests, but as far as I can tell, such a request would mean some character data is moved to another (world) server, then when the player leaves, they get transferred back to their original (world) server. This was how it was until the change.
This is probably very efficient now, but it's no accident you get a mini-"lagspike" when you jump between servers.

It's not really a kick starter. It is an established studio and have already been developing the game. The Kickstarter is just for stretch goals and for advertisement
If you look at the pledges, you get all your money back in novelty items and subscriptions when the game releases
