example: I say Blizzard's pricing of cosmetics is too high. I proceed to cite League of Legends, a F2P game which basically runs on cosmetic microtransaction that might provide good examples. I show how much more value you get from high tier skins in such a game. I then proceed to pivot, making some points of how it's easy to make a lot of money off a relatively exploitable fanbase with products that have low overhead over time.
I consider it problematic for a number of reasons.

- Because that's not necessarily what the casual audience wants. If we're going to proceed on the assumption that mobile = casual gamer paradise, then why is play not allowed to be paced more at the player's whim? Isn't that kind of a key thing considering how little free time a casual probably has?
To put it another way, maintaining full stamina is a very real first world problem.

- It locks in design on the basis of the stamina system itself. I noticed this problem when playing a game with a huge bonus - infinite stamina for the week you start.
I ripped right through a huge part of the game.
It was paced poorly, the writing was awfully done, and it felt like the early game lacked any sort of substance. Only later did I discover there was some depth but a game that lacks a feeling of depth is probably not going to attract many gamers in general, no matter how much time they have on their hands.
And I was only playing an hour a day or so...
Basically what I'm trying to say is that it encourages design that might not be so modular with a core or hardcore demographic, which is a potent audience and probably a significant amount of the whale bloc because...being a whale would allow one to play the game as much as they want.
and yes, some do. Others are actually...okayish
I'll point out some.
- There are ways to create time gated content without a hard lockout. Daily bonuses, such as login bonuses, are such a way to encourage regular participation without going too strongly one way or the other.
Whether it's "oh god I have full stamina I better go use it all" or "oh god I have no more stamina what should I go do now?"
Anyways, for games that actually seem to function okay with a stamina system. Puzzle and Dragons comes to mind.
They throw premium currency at you and it only costs one of it to fully restore stamina. Stamina regenerates fairly fast (was once 10 mins per 1, but now it's 3 minutes). Doing anything is rather cheap stamina-wise. Most higher-end content typically costs 50 stamina, but a lot of lower end content costs far less.
Levels themselves usually take minutes and if you beat enough of them, you get more premium currency to spend so you could constantly buy stamina replenishes and have a good time for a while. Rank ups also replenish stamina and happen quickly early on, plus the game throws around a lot of EXP dungeons.
The game throws a good chunk of the depth out very quickly and gives you materials to actually make use of it often without forcing it until at least the midgame.
There is a multiplayer mode that cuts Stamina costs in half. If you have a friend to play with, playtime can get extended significantly.
Finally, there is a zero cost high score sort of dungeon if you finally run out of stamina.
As an afterthought, the game would work pretty well without a stamina system just as well. I almost think it's not needed. The game has a lot of soft time gates like limited dungeons and most dungeons are worth completing only once or twice anyways.

The nvidia card in mine does run hot, but that's why I have a button I can use to turn the fan on. ONly really necessary when running bdo and wow at once. Or gw2, like ever.

Him (Bubba) and my brother's dog Rocco (who's a pitbull / husky mix) were both abandoned and showed up at our house a year ago in winter. We found the owners after about 4 months and contacted them and they got their dogs back. A few months later, Rocco showed up at our house again and apparently Bubba was in the pound. We tried to contact the owners but they wouldn't pick up this time. Bubba was captured by the pound like 5 or 6 times and this time because his owners kept letting him run away or something. So now he had a $400 fine to take him back to his original owners, so we claimed him for adoption and got him back for free since they weren't picking up or answering any of our calls. And now I got Bubba while my brother has Rocco.
they're both like 2 years old or so and I think Rocco's previous owner before the ones before us (so like 2 owners ago) were abusive or something
The owners seemed to have moved out of state or something too which is why I think they don't want them anymore

Logan, our third cat, we kind of adopted in a similar fashion.
He'd been abandoned by the people who lived next door when they moved, but we didn't know about it at first, since there's strays in our neighborhood from time to time and the woman across the street tends to take care of them
But he was living on our back porch area for about 2 months before we realised that he wasn't going anywhere else, and then he kind of just.... walked inside one day. He looked up at me and I picked him up, and he's never wanted to be more than 3 feet away from me since.
We took him to the vet to look him over and they discovered he'd been chipped and even neutered, but his 'forever home' didn't turn out to be forever for him :(
So now he's ours and we're never letting him go.
