Choosing "fresh start" area to start from scratch on the server?

I'm thinking about playing on the server but i want to find a place away from the already established players so i can grind stuff out myself. I'm not sure how to tell what areas have been explored so far though. I found the giant map in the nether hub which i would love to add to but idk how.

well, there's no way to really tell how far players have gone

since many have bases farther then the nether map

but if you want to find somewhere far, just follow a nether highway to the end and go a bit farther

how do i figure out where the emtpy spots on the map in the nether are? i'd like to just settle down in one of those spots so i can fill the map in

that's kinda hard to do but the top of the map is north

so you could head in the direction of the empty maps

using f3 or a compass

i'm trying to figure out how to make maps that will align properly with the ones on the map wall idk why the way its explained on the wiki is making no sense to me lol

I need to make compasses for my maps though lol. Need to find somewhere to mine iron and redstone before i set off to map stuff

Thank you but i'm mostly trying to work on building up from scratch myself. Bulk common stuff like iron and coal and stuff would be awesome though! Compasses would definitely help a ton. I spent the first few hours on the server trying to establish a base to start mining just to grind a few compasses
