so, the reason he threw the violin down the stairs and sparked the argument is that mari was pressuring him too much about the recital because she was a perfectionist (if you haven't read the black space photo descriptions I'd recommend it - they're in the files but don't show ingame for some reason)
I think the ghost mari before last resort apologizes as well, although don't quote me on it

as for when it appears.
I don't know exactly why there. Orange oasis does have a lot of hints to the real world and you need to be at least somewhat into the game to see it, but I don't think there's a confirmed reason for why the train

but essentially headspace exists to hide black space, which contains all his awareness of the incident and basically all his trauma. its like the stereotypical internal box to hide bad feelings and trauma in. in this scenario, headspace is failing a bit and black space is leaking through- that's why everything is so messed up and dark. I'd assume dorothi (the creature) represents some awareness of mari and the incident and stuff.
I also read a theory that it's mari influencing him to some extent from the afterlife to lead him to the last resort, so maybe she's trying and failing to break through here using black space, but that's not confirmed to my knowledge and I think it's a bit of a reach to claim that mari is contacting him from beyond lol

I haven't actually done any research on this so it might be completely off but afaik there's nothing confirmed and that was my interpretation

I think it's agreed that the whole train event is black space leaking through since sunny is progressing towards unlocking those memories, and maybe even wants to, which weakens headspace and makes black space appear. It happens all over in little cracks (like when you collect keys!!), this is just a much much bigger incident

Why the train is just the part I'm uncertain of

That's true, I just think it can be a really confusing sequence and given that the descriptions are from first person and describes sunny's experience, it's still a bit confusing but at least somewhat more legible to figure out what's going on

It might hurt the atmosphere a little but I think it makes the player experience a lot more cohesive

its tricky because i feel like in general the photos are enough to know what happened, the only thing thats confusing is the why maybe only having the text on the photos leading up to the push could help with the bit of confusion whilst keeping that tension and having a relatively harsh cut from text to no text could work with the dismissal/denial aspect
