Just started playing last week and the game is awesome. But it takes a while to get a horse. It’d be cool to have a feature earlier in the game where you can continue to sprint on a path towards your destination without holding any buttons. (Like in Red Dead) It wouldn’t be fast travel because it would still take the amount of time. But then my thumbs wouldn’t hurt getting from one side of the map to the other.
#Auto/Continuous Running

Not sure about consoles, but on PC there is an option to auto run. It's pressing double Shift iirc.
On Xbox it is pressing on Left Joystick... and I assume it should be the same on a PS controller
Though you still have to move the camera around to oriente your character
OP's suggestion is for continuous running. The left double-SHIFT is for continuous walking. And while the CAPS LOCK toggles speed, I've only seen it toggle between walk and stroll. I have accidentally locked my NPC in run mode (which did result in continuous running), but I've never found what triggers the run mode. So continuous running seems to exist (at least in PC), it's just a matter of figuring out how to control it.
On PC you double tap Shift to continously walk and then tap Shift once more to switch to run; then you run continously. I, for one, would love an option that almost every other game I play has, which is a dedicated single auto-run key that I can bind to my mouse.
I have mine set up this way. I changed my key bind to pressing the middle mouse wheel down. If I hold it, I run. If I click it two times, I auto-run and can navigate simply by moving the mouse.
Definitely better than 3 clicking Shift but still not optimal, especially considering most games have had it for years. I'll look into that middle mouse button thing.
So to clarify, on ps5 if I click/toggle the left stick once, it does run and keep running as long as I continue pushing the stick forward. However, when I let go, my character stops moving altogether. In red dead, there’s a feature called cinematic mode. When you’re on a horse and turn it on, your horse will continue running on a set path even if you just leave the controller sitting there and don’t touch it whatsoever. That’s the feature I’m hoping might one day be implemented.
this happens on Steam too, auto run/toggle works fine.... until u do anything at all...
then it defaults back to "jogging", it used to maintain the movement (sprinting etc), i open my Map and back to jog, i open my inventory and back to jog... its annoying
I would like this to revert back to how it was before 😉
This seems to be one of those "unintended side effects" of updating something else. The game used to respect the sprint toggle when you stopped to interact with something. Then an update made it "forget" until it was fixed again and one of the more recent updates has made it forget again. I too am looking forward to the game "remembering" that I want to sprint. The toggle vs hold option should, in theory, persist between movement sessions.
