#Diverse NPC's

But that's unrealistic, isn't it? If you give your wife presents from time to time and she gives little presents to you, it is a nice thing. But why should you wish to give a present to some Dagobert or Roberta, who are just a farmer and a hunter (just examples) living in the same village? In Reality you don't make presents to people you hardly know, do you?
they aren't just a farmer and hunter though, in the early game they choose to join your settlement and maybe they are even your first villager, this would of course lead to a few conversations and getting to know each other, and either way this is meant as more of a way to boost villagers moods and their work speed! I imagine that people knew each other well when they live and work so close to each other in a community:)
People give gifts to friends and neighbours all of the time, especially in rural communities. It's not uncommon to share extra produce and food that you have excess of with your neighbours. It's how you build friendship and friendly relations. That sort of thing is only uncommon in cities or large towns, which this game obviously isn't set in.
I’d love or be able to give more mundane gifts to people. Like how Racimir’s wife gives him food and drink occasionally, I’d like to be able to give people little treats with a reward scaling to their value.
This has a strong SV and Portia vibe, sounds immersion breaking so no.
And frankly I'm tired of this game mechanic running around giving gifts to ppl with my inventory full, trying to remember where they are so I can reach them on time and all that hassle. Could really use a break from that stuff. This game has a different vibe and a different grind, not sure this would work. Besides gifting wasn't even a thing back then.
Thats just a terrible take lol
"More diverse NPC's, different body types, different personalities, job preferences" - Immersion breaking? What have you been smoking 💀
Giving gifts has been a thing since ancient egypt so idk where you got that weird take from
Early middle ages are not the same as ancient Egypt
Also, please don't get personal
I don't do drugs
What OP is suggesting is exactly that SV/Portia stuff that has become so repetitive and boring tbh
Even if it was for diversity, how much more can you do? They're early medieval peasants
This is not a Skyrim level game
Like it's not that big
Medieval peasants, enough said
Now if they bring in a special NPC, I'd expect some work put in
Like some main character that is, like an antagonist or something
Otherwise it doesn't matter
Not everybody has your experiences with video games and your take on what is boring or repetitive is purely subjective.
If we can all understand that it keeps us from arguing over preferences, which is pointless and usually ends up being combative and personal 👍
Not everybody but OP defo does, I'm assuming
Believe me it gets boring after a few runs
Nothing subjective here, talking from experience
Feels like a chore
Almost every rpg style game has that heart/friendship level mechanic
I think someone else has made this exact point
This doesn't fit in this game, ergo immersion breaking
It’s fine if you think so. I’m not weighing in on that. But saying something “feels like” something is purely subjective, not an objective statement of fact.
It just really sounds like you and the OP have different things you value in games. And you’re not going to argue each other into having different values so 🤷♂️
I wasn't arguing with OP, it was Snizzy who started it and turned it into an argument
OP isn't even here
Feels like a chore is a phrase
Not literally feels like
It becomes a chore
So yeah it is an objective fact not my opinion
My mistake. Point stands though.
The entire game is literally about doing chores lol. A lot of us enjoy it for that exact reason
Not these kind of chores

This is not Stardew Valley or My Time at Portia and it would be really great if ppl understood that
Ok
It's a suggestion to make the game feel more alive really, I'm not trying to compare it or suggest it be made similar to any other games. This is simply a suggestion that I primarily made for the developers so they could look at the idea and consider whether it would fit into their game or not. I understand a lot of people want the game to stay as it is, but I have played this game for a long time and personally miss the bonding you could have made with the npcs. It is currently just a random name, working at a random place, living in a random house. Adding more personality would help make it feel more realistic, as a community like this would have been close-knitted and you would have known the names and faces of the people living next-door to you. We are all entitled to our own opinion so I appreciate your insight as well!:)
Cool man, appreciate your kind response
no worries!

You're right, I did come of as rude and for that I apologise. I still however think that adding diversity to the NPC's is not a bad idea because atm the NPCs feel very bland to me (and I think to other people as well). There is a lot left to be desired imo as I see my villagers only as workers.
Okay, fair enough. All good!

Though giving gifts was still a practice in the medieval ages, birthdays were quite important and especially at weddings people would offer gifts, even lifestock to the newly weds.
I did think of it as well as to not make it like SV/Portia as to how they could go about applying this mechanic
Just for fun you know approaching it as a problem
Here's something I came up with
Yeah I mean I agree the way gifts work now is very annoying, especially for reaching that "Happy Wife, Happy Life: achievement. Would be cool if there were travelling merchants that would pass by your market stalls and offer exotic merchandise or something like that
Because I agree having to run to Hornica for a single bracelet is a pain in the *ss
Challenge here is that since there's a huge amount of NPCs in all the villages, the could realistically do it for the residents of just our village
And apply it there, so this special kind of personalized gift giving ritual works for our village family
That's what I thought of as well!
Also, since we're like their leader of sorts we could also grant them certain favors (maybe reward them with coin, food, etc. for good work or on certain occasions/festivities) that would make them happier and bring us closer like a tribe
Like going the extra mile to keep your people happy
Could also positively affect their mood especially in times of distress (say they implement natural disasters in the future and the village is doing badly)
that's exactly what I had in mind with this suggestion! I meant gift giving more as a way for you and your village to get closer, not the randoms in hornica for example 😂
Yeah I did give it some thought in spite of disliking the idea at first
Especially with regards to how they could not do it like SV/Portia but still implement the core idea differently
I never played SV or Portia so how do they actually do it? 😂
I understand! I definitely thought more about gift giving with the people in your own village! As they also feel a bit like random npcs you might as well not even remember the name of, so it could just be a way to feel more connected to them
I mean the Lords or Jarls or whoever did share things with their subjects like on feast days
Yeah that is important cuz they're your team
exactly!
hence why i also thought them having preferences would be nice, so that gifts can be more personal and you can have more information to remember a villager by
It's a pain in the bu** man you have to remember their schedule (weekly/daily) and things they like and make sure to get there on time and keep doing it until you reach 10 heart level which was like a max I think but you HAVE to do it because certain quests, recipes are only unlocked then and there's no way around it
You have to do it for all of them (about 30-40) NPCs to get all the achievements
okay now i definitely understand why you might have been against the idea at first 😂 that does seem like a hassle
So your schedule is already quite hectic cuz you're an up and coming farmer/craftsman and then you have to entertain basically curry favour with the entire village because you're the new guy and unless you do there's no way to progress in the game
Days are pretty quick like 7-8 minute irl and you pass out at 2 am wherever you are if you don't make it back in time, no 24 hour days like MD where you can do anything you want and sleep once per season
Yeah you get the point
Thanks for understanding
Sorry if I came across as a d***
absolutely! I think it was just a bit of miscommunication, because I definitely don't think bonding with your villagers should feel like a chore but more like a choice if you would like to:)
Yeah exactly my point
you didn't really! As far as I've understood the community here there are some people who are a little more careful as to add too many new things, as the game is pretty good already, but I do think conversations like these can help guide the game towards a direction which will suit everybody's needs:)
likewise! 😁

The idea of giving a present to the pair who are marrying or for the birth of the first child I like. But not giving presents to all of them each season.
The way I thought of it, You cut down a tree and it falls on an NPCs house. They vacate because the house is damaged and start taking a mood hit for being homeless. You can then fix their house and give them a pie as a gift and it gives a small mood bump. Maybe only a couple points.
Please, there should be people of other colors, after all I'm white and I love a dark-skinned woman, right?
It's a shame that I married one and it even looks like a somewhat racist or prejudiced game and it could improve the animation of collecting with a pickaxe, it should be used with both hands, more shades of white ppl, and more face diversity
The reason the pickaxe is one-handed, as with other tools, is to allow the player to hold a torch in the other. It used to be two-handed and was changed to suit players who work at night or go mining themselves.
As most times "results of players demands"
But it's not reality, a pickaxe is used with two hands, for those who work at night there is a floor torch for that. that was a mistake
a floor torch? where?
I think they mean standing torch. Which is not a solution as it's stationary.
I'd just like to see more NPCs walking around the world, traveling, or visiting villages. I don't care much for the gift giving thing, but I'd love to see NPCs really exploring the world and whatnot.
there's another suggestion for that 😉
I figured as much - which is why I didn't post my own post lol. I'm sure LOADS of people want this. 😄
More variation of skin, hair, eye color of NPCs & especially in character creation would be awesome.
