Good day, dear friends. I would like to be able to run a dedicated server for multiplayer. So that friends can play at the moment when I'm not at home. For example, as it is done in the game Valheim. If, however, you decide to make it possible for people to run a dedicated server, I would like it to be able to run on Linux without emulating another system. This would help to save precious and expensive resources.

Dear friends, Is there any progress in the direction of the server? Or hints of what will happen in the future?

With the co-op announcement I would hope this is being considered

Why? Before we even know how it is intend to work?

Any multi-player game should have dedicated servers.

#

Cant say that I agree.... I see your point, but guess you think MD will become something it never will.

ionic echo
#

@calm carbon I agree because peer to peer can go offline when the person hosting isn't on and it has other problems. However dedicated servers can be expensive and depends who can run them.

Overall good thing to point out ๐Ÿ™‚ I'm not going to say your idea is bad just depends on what the Devs want to do.

calm carbon
#

With SteamCMD you can run a dedicated server on just about anything. There is even lots of software out there like Cubecoders AMP for hosting your own game servers. I do this with my community and as you said it helps us be able to play together even if its crossing paths maybe an hour or so a day due to busy schedules.

Noticed there was no mention of dedicated servers still. Hopefully one day otherwise it will take months to get things done for my group of friends.

No news with the co-op mode ?

apparently, it's just a host and up to 3 players, no dedicated server

Bumping this to the top again, this would be a nice way to support the game financially

I don't even need a full dedicated server. I would just like to run a local server where anyone can log in at any time and we don't require the "Host" to be playing.

#

Yes, please we need dedicated servers. With local the peple who join don't really feel like it's their home and shared world, since they can't access it and it dimishes the experience for the non-host players.

Dedicated servers would make every feel like it's their home together and would want to invest in it. Right now my friends just goof around and don't care since its only "My game" and not theirs.

#

Would be a nice touch. I ran a dedicated server for satisfactory a while back.

#

I don't have a problem with it as long as it is limited as is now with up to 4. I would hate to see this go the way of PvP. this is more story driven and not like Rust, Ark or other survival games. I rather this style because it is laid back and relaxing.

Really hoping for dedicated servers to allow more than 4 together. Would be such a great addition!

#

It would be a good option to create a dedicated server. otherwise the host has to be there all the time. We have now started 4 different villages so that each of us can be away from time to time. That is quite exhausting.

I'd love to see official and dedicated servers

low moth
#

I think it's quite obvious to say
This will increase the life cycle of this game along with player retention rates through the roof along with new players
This would see twitch names such as Stevie, summit1G synergy and many other big streamers to the game and this will grow the game at a crazy rate that MD has never seen before

Until we can kill and attack other players this game will never gain real traction
As the number 1 genre in gaming is PvP
You can break PvP into multiple genres Moba, fpsg etc
Moba being #1 fps being #2
Just look at the top 10 games at anytime on twitch
League of legends Dota 2 GTA Online COD CS Go fortnite etc etc
They all have PvP elements

I don't even think there is a single simulation game within the top 100 games at point in anytime

Just want to bump/support this idea. I'm sure theres all kinds of technically bits I don't understand but I know my play group would love some kind of dedicated server mode and larger player lobbies as well. With the recent co-op update a friend has gotten 3 more of us playing this but others are hesitant because they can't join our co-op as well. Hopefully we can see more as the game develops, thanks!

Ditto - the only thing that MD multiplayer coop needs now is the option to host a dedicated server so it can be better for ping, and mp handling.

I would love to see dedicated servers but I feel theyโ€™d need to be handled differently than Co-Op and single player mode.

Time constantly running would definitely introduce different challenges, especially to those who canโ€™t hop on every day but rather a few days out of the week or weekend.

ripe silo
#

in other game we have a mode that auto-pause server when no-player connected ... I think it's the best solution .

One way or another, time will pass if someone is online, which means offline people can miss things like taxes, marriage quests, etc

Some news about dedicated server ?

lethal monolith

Not likely, especially not in the close future.

#

YES PLEASE . I would LOVE it sooooo much. I personally find that it's a "must-have" feature. My friends and I stopped playing Co-Op for that exact reason. It's difficult to find a hoster that can ALWAYS be there when someone wants to play. Please. And thank you for your hard work!

As much as I'd personally enjoy it myself, I definitely don't see full dedicated servers being given, the maps are definitely too small and the game as a city-builder I'm not sure would mix well with larger scale servers.

That said though; I would like at least like how Hot Ice said; just the ability to have a local server so you and a few pals can sign on anytime. Or maybe if you have a dedicated server little more than local, limiting how many can play at once.

I have ideas on how maybe a full server could work, ways to overcome the issues I can come up with with proper servers, but I'll be honest I am in full belief they'd never happen so I'mma stick to local/small scale servers would be really nice. Realistically though, not too certain on if we'll get even local.

is there not a way to "rent" a server or a pc to host? It would be nice to join the game at any moment rather waiting for friends to jump on.

I was thinking about this and I do like the idea of a dedicated server.

However with the way multiplayer works right now the easiest thing to do would be to tie progression into the dedicated server so everyone would share things like dynasty progression and unlocks.

Initially that sounds all well and good if you tweak things like building limits and all that but there's a few points that would need to be addressed for that kind of venture to be successful.

Permissions:
With current systems in place every player that joined would be able to access anything you would be able to. This starts with anything and everything in storage, to destroying buildings, or murdering your livestock. Many running even mid sized groups are going to be skeptical adding anyone else to their server for fear of all progress being wiped by a single troll.

Shared Limits:
At a certain point in player count you're going to want to have multiple towns. Even cranked to very high limits if a couple players have built a large settlement other players are going to be limited. It's not a good feeling to be limited in what you can build because of the actions of other players.

As an alternative with some tweaking on already existing framework you could create a version where you had somethings more conducive to 10+ players playing.

'Settlement' Progression:

This would also allow for the ability to disallow players from other settlements to freely access and edit your containers and buildings.

Scale it up with a bigger map and inter-settlement trades and you got yourself a fun MMO

# chilly maple I was thinking about this and I do like the idea of a dedicated server. However...

So a question (srs) for you @chilly maple
You have some very insightful ideas here, I've always wondered this for Dedicated Server suggestions
If i have a STANDARD co-op game, if I'm host and my co-op partner is away for 2-3 weeks, and i KEEP playing (like a dedicated server would) they out-age their OWN CHILD!!
Time continues but they don't age, however, their child and spouse do
So my co-op partner comes back to a 50yo wife and a 30 yo child.... (they are still 20yo) so a 20yo has a 30yo child..... you see the issue?!? (i hope)
How do you propose the rectify this issue? (this is a srs and completely non-resolved question for this suggestion)
Cheers @chilly maple ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ok so after some consideration

I think adjusting the way time passes is the most equitable way of handling this.

  • Make it so sleeping in a bed only gives you a buff and doesn't make time pass.

  • Characters age when they are offline

  • Adjust season passings so that it takes a time around a day or two per year.

  • Time is paused when no players are online.

That is mostly for dedicated servers

For current co-op since character ages pause id probably make efforts for everyone to be on the same play schedule. In a situation where you'd like to keep playing and they are taking a break id increase the days per season as much as I can and not sleep while in play. That way I can keep years passed while I'm playing to the minimum.

Would love a way that my friends could access the same save if Iโ€™m (the host) not available to get online.

Hello, I am not sure how to suggest it but there is a similar game, "Grounded", there you can make a "server" where both you and your friends can use it and host it at the same time. Maybe you can add something similar

If the game didn`t randomly crash, i would get a server and buy another version of the game and leave it running all the time, Will there be a option to increase players able to join ๐Ÿ™‚

I honestly hope you bring this into the game soon. It makes sense. If you need to raise the cost of the games I am sure most would be willing to pay an extra 5-10.00 for the game and allow yourself the cost to fund a Dedicated server the cost is not that crazy. UE4 is not so bad but for games like SD and UE5 its much more taxing. Why not have one dedicated server for all your games. It just makes sense.

@fallen ocean i mean Toplitz as a,publisher

yeah, but it is Render Cube who decide how they want MD to work. Toplitz has nothing to do with if Render Cube will add possibility of dedicated server or not

I also would like a dedicated server (for linux). I would be willing to pay 5 or $10 for a dedicated server "DLC". My friend doesn't play same hours as me, but would love to build in same world as them (like we do in minecraft, factorio, etc)

Same! Would be awesome if we got dedicated server for this game. E.g with steamCMD which works on Win, Mac and Linux. Please make it so! ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes please, since at the moment the only way to do is it a windows vps

crisp badger
#

its kinda tricky to do dedicated right. not to make the same mistakes as lets say, GTA has/had with hosting and security. without the proper safeguards in place. its rather easy to leave the host rather vulnerable to cyber attacks.

Medieval Dynasty should really have the ability to host your own server. Such games have real potential, it's a real shame that such games only have 1 player or 4 co-op, although the game is exactly what many players are looking for with their own server.

For RP lovers the game would be really great as it really has the potential for that

or ideally a feature

  • Single player

  • Co-op without server

  • Private host server

would be ideal, everyone benefits from it.๐Ÿ™

Hmm...while I like the idea in theory, I share Mike's concern about the whole aging/seasons passing thing. Woody provided some options, but I feel those would need some massive changes to the game overall to make it feasible. For me, it would seriously break my immersion if those who could play more or less often weren't aging.

There is also the issue of the overall game design in regards to the fact that it's meant to be 3 day seasons. The amount of progression that can be made in just a couple sessions is massive. And to a point takes the co out of co-op. I personally feel the game would just need too many adjustments to make it geared towards this.

But, on the other hand, I wouldn't have to do it if I didn't like how it was implemented.

#

I would like to see a dedicted server ability also. But the game as it is now wouldn't really support that. Everything happens very fast, resources deplete very quickly. If a player disappers for just 1-2 game days, the entire village can suffer. Only once you have many villagers all carefully balanced to take care of themselves could you hope that your village survives a few days without you. So a dedicated server just wouldn't work.

Might need to implement some system of 'hybernation' perhaps? not sure.

OR perhaps allow Co-op saves to be uploaded to the cloud every save (maybe through steam's cloud save?) and be accesable by all those playing. So that any one of the co-op players can start the game up from where it was last saved.
Basically this would avoid having to manually find and upload the save yourself to some dropbox thing where others can then download it, put it in their save folder, and start the game. A system to automate all that for the player would be cool.

I read through this entire thread and see something nobody has suggested.

Perhaps the devs could team up with Nitrado to allow us to host our own servers while simultaneously passing the cost onto those of us who would prefer our own servers. Of course keeping the current options in the game for those that don't want to or can't afford to pay for a dedicated server.

I have more than 4 friends who would play this with my wife/kids, and me. I support this idea. I host my own dedicated servers off my home lab.

As has been said in your comment, 10+ players playing is a great idea, but the question is: once someone joins a server, will it be his/her server forever or can a player leave and give the seat to another player? Will this new person be 18 y/o, or will they "swap age spots" with the previous player? player limit per server ? @chilly maple

If a server has 10, 100, or 1000 people, it's a completely different approch. Everyone wants to build, everyone wants to be the village leader. A system of roles and hierarchies should be implemented within the village. Kings, councilors, department heads, commercial and trade, warriors, commanders, etc. also a role system should be implemented: A low-ranking player cannot enter the king's house. buildings dedicated to meetings. There is a lot that the developers need to do
