You know, diluting some artists coal dust into alcohol or water can do it as well without the danger of lighting your box on fire.

You make a good point, I resort too easily towards hobby pyromania 😂 But would it be difficult to achieve the same natural "burnt wood" stain aesthetic? Have you done it before?

Honesty? I'd just grab acryllic paints. Grab a black and burnt umber, mix a dot of each 1 to 1. If too thick, one part water as well. Grab an old rag or sponge and dab it on in irregular methods. If it's too much, don't worry, you can always sand it down again. I'd use something like 100-200 grit, so it leaves marks (which you'd want in recreating patina/wear)

The more water you add, the more it'll absorb rather than layer. I've done something similar before applying actual stain, I stained first with just a coal+water mixture, to darken the grain first, so once I go over with a brown-ish stain, the grains remained darker and almost black.

I'm a Master Painter in regards to Decorative and Restorative painting, so this is finally something I went to school for

Wanna go even worse? Try to get some old rusty iron/steel scraps, and don't clean them. Throw. them either in a jug of alcohol or acetone, or water. Leave it there for a week or a month so the liquid becomes tainted (And absolutely wonderful for wood).

Wood absorbs and you can do funky shit with it.

How many hours does a piece like this take?

Well you start with a regular hotwheels or equivalent. Some just glue parts to them. But I assume you can clearly see I go way more in depth with it. I look at it, see what I can do. Or come up with an idea and go into my collection of hotwheels and equivalent cars. I mainly do this for competition, I like themes to work with.

I then spend roughly a week, a few hours each day. Disassembling, removing paint, cutting up the cars, finding the parts, glueing some base stuff together. Work a lot with silhouette and try to make things look interesting from as many angles as possible.

2 weeks sculpting, doing details, a lot of scratchbuilding parts out of copper wire, plastic, metal. I make my own wheels (I have no 3d printer). Sometimes even use bone, 40k bits, other miniature bits. Other parts from other hotwheels, just cut them off and try to fuse it.

1 week of stress of painting and last minute photos for contest submission.

Flux is better only at anatomy and blending and the pixel quality is not of much importance as you can easily upscale the image quality using subtle or creative upscaler where Stability's creative upscaler is the best one in this case but It is premium.

There is more that can be done, but this speeds up high quality generation a lot, especially if you aren't a great prompter

for perspective, most of the images I make I, embarrassingly, spend maybe 5 seconds making

its at a point where making broadly appealing images is kind of a science
