I know that weirdness in how trending has been handled, and all of the ambiguity around it definitely discourages a lot of people from putting as much effort into some projects when they feel like it can be too easily glossed over by someone actively attempting to "Game the system", or just by not quite understanding "The best way to interact" with the trending section. I know I have no interest in spamming my songs or directly advertising here because it'll be seen by the few people looking at showcase at that second, and no one will ever scroll back to see it.

It is the solution business that is difficult. Our voting mechanism is not really that good at the moment, but it is the best that we can have right now. It needs to be transparent, but fair. We haven't taken any manipulated votes into account in SSC3 or SSC4 (and before that there was not much people involved anyway). The biggest problem is the social game that happens in the voting because people can see who are voting for whom. SSC4 Finals voting will be for participants only, which will control the promotion side of vote counts, but still some people are very connected and they get a lot of votes.

So hang on, two things. first in answer to this, i use civitai, and I basically just wing it. i actually don't do a lot of non-general models, as for the most part now, if I want my face on something, I can just use controlnet

I also started writing this all out, and realized it was going to be way too unrelated

So yes, more or less, I'd say just follow what other people have done, buuuuut, if you have a project you want to continually work on, then it is worth merging the LoRas, which I will be doing at some point this month. Basically, in my opinion, SDXL (and LLMs, and presumably other machine learning models broadly) suffer from overfitting as the primary obstacle to generalization. Generalization is always the goal.

So like, I have a few ways I think about it. One is as a signal processing problem, where basically getting "generalization" is about tuning your model to just the right state so that you can get to the signal, which in this case is generalized procedure that will produce your image accurately (or answer your question intelligently, produce a compelling melody, etc).

My recommendation for a beginner is twofold:

1. just use fooocus. There are a dozen reasons, but basically its much less headache to use, its more performant, and you'll spend less time tinckering and more time generating images, which is what you should be doing realistically to get a feel for the model

two is basically the same, which is that there's no specific tutorial, but basically just keep challenging yourself (if you enjoy it)

bc this is also how WE generalize, and especially with AI, overfitting ie confusing knowledge of the tool with knowledge of the underlying concepts won't really be helpful for that long, as it moves so fast

but yea, in general, when I am trying to make a larger than "spec" image ie for example, when I was doing the 1600x1600s last night, I aim to use as much multiprompting as possible, that is as convergent as possible, but also is syntactically varied. So basically, I use language of course, which in fooocus is divided via line breaks. And I use images as well, which fooocus can use up to four of for guidance. If you use both of these things together, you often don't even need a LoRa to generate massive images in one pass

but the LoRas help. It kind of like feeding someone with adhd amphetamine. It doesn't always work, but we can instantanesouly mess with the dosage, so usually you can dial it in

well, thats not how amphetamines work lol, but in the case of an ML model, its instant and modifiable in terms of weights
